The Bake House - Restored stone cottage in an idyllic location

The Bake House, Fossil Cottage, & Hedgerow Cottage are one bedroom cottages in an idyllic rural location which is quiet and peaceful in the midst of secluded South Isle of Wight countryside, two miles from the coast and 5 minutes walk from The White Horse Inn, a quality Island dining pub. There are spectacular views of the downs from all around the cottage, with beautiful sunsets. In the fields are dairy cows, a stream, hawthorn hedges and plenty of wildlife. The cottage is excellently situated for walking, cycling, fishing, romantic breaks and exploring the whole of the Isle of Wight. There is easy access on to the footpaths directly outside the cottage which join the extensive Stenbury and Worsley trails near Appuldurcombe, or the west wight coastal paths, all providing panoramic views. At close by Nettlecombe Farm (short footpath walk) there are three well stocked fishing lakes (permits available).

A five minute walk across fields leads to historic Whitwell village and dining pub. The White Horse pub is very popular for meals and there is an attractive 700-year old church. Close by is Niton village with post office, food shops and beautiful St Catherine’s Lighthouse. Under ten minutes by car is the pretty Victorian seaside town of Ventnor with its own micro climate offering sandy beaches, sub-tropical botanic gardens and local ale. You can also walk to Ventnor using public footpaths leading straight from the house with spectacular views.
This is an original island stone cottage in a row of three adjoining cottages which are several hundred years old. Restored by National Trust builders, this lovely cottage is tastefully decorated and furnished. You enter into an attractive lounge with a television and sofa. Off the lounge is the kitchen which is well-equipped with fitted units, electric oven and hob, microwave, refrigerator with freezer section.
Upstairs is an attractive double bedroom and separate bathroom with an excellent walk in shower. At both the rear and the front of the cottage are table and chairs to make most of the early morning and evening sun. Breakfast on the rear patio and a glass of wine at sunset at the front of the property. A car may be parked beside the cottages. Please note access to the cottage is over the fields along a well maintained gravel farm track. The village may be accessed back along the farm track or by public footpath taking approx 5 minute.

Comfortable Cottage
The Bake House is a great place to stay. Situated at the end of a farm track with foot paths running past the door and a 10 min walk to the village pub. The cottage was comfortable well equipped andand spotlessly clean.

Overall the Cottage as advertised and we were very happy with the location and all information provided by Sarah the owner. One thing that we thougt could be improved on was a change of the matress. Although it was a good quality mattress we felt had it had seen better days.

Fabulous cottage
We stayed in the third cottage, The Bake House, a cute and well presented cottage for two people. It was cleaned to a high standard, very comfortable and in a superb location. Just a 10 min walk to the local pub which serves fabulous food. This accommodation oozes character and has everything you could want. There is a tiny yard outside the back of the cottage but has a bbq and a table and chairs set. I would highly recommend this property.

Wonderfully peaceful cottage
A beautiful stone cottage described to a “T” in the description. A warm welcome with tea, coffee and cake awaited us on arrival. A welcome booklet was very helpful with local pubs/walks etc and a guide on the heating/water/TV in the cottage. Thank you for a lovely stay!

What a beautiful cottage! The Bake House has been newly renovated and was absolutely immaculate. It had all of the essentials you would need for a stay and was only a short walk across the fields to a lovely pub! Ventnor was a short drive away and despite very wet weather we had a lovely weekend. The cottage is small and was fine for just the 2 of us and our small dog. A big dog might be quite a challenge, especially as you are located in the middle of a field so muddy paws are unavoidable!
