An idyllic retreat in the heart of one of the Isle of Wight's prettiest villages, Grebe Cottage was completely renovated in early 2014 and now offers a stylish holiday experience. The cottage is directly opposite the famous Bonchurch Pond, and a short walk from the quiet sandy beach at Monks Bay. The excellent Bonchurch Inn is within walking distance, and for a wider choice of amenities the charming seaside resort of Ventnor is a 15-20 minute walk. The property is set back from the road and presents a very pretty frontage. A generous entrance hall with hanging space leads to the comfortable main lounge, stylishly decorated, with Smart TV and audio systems and a pretty open fireplace. A separate dining room is furnished in old pine. The kitchen is newly fitted in a white Shaker style, with gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso machine. Off the kitchen is a sun porch, ideal for morning coffee, and a utility room with washing machine and downstairs WC. There is an enclosed terraced garden to the rear of the property with outside dining facilities. Upstairs, the master bedroom enjoys excellent views of the pond and has a king size double bed. The second bedroom has two single beds that can be zipped together (please advise at time of booking). The spacious luxury bathroom, newly renovated, has a powerful shower, corner bath, bidet and under floor heating. Grebe Cottage has been expertly renovated by Distinctive Designs of Ventnor, and is decorated in subtle colours from the Zoffany range.
The South Wight is very special. Slightly removed from the main tourist beaches, the Ventnor Undercliff enjoys a Mediterranean microclimate. Exotic plants can grow -you will find an international collection in Ventnor Botanic Gardens, Ventnor was developed in Victorian times as a fashionable seaside resort, and there is much fine seaside architecture. After suffering a period of decline during the 1960s and 70s it is now resurgent, and enjoys a thriving arts scene, quirky shops, and provides the full seaside experience in an uncrowded environment. The Undercliff nestles beneath St Boniface Down, which offers excellent down land walking with fabulous sea and rural views.
Bonchurch is one of the Island's prettiest villages. Mostly constructed of the local stone and dating from medieval times, it was developed from about 1800 as a retreat for the wealthy, with large houses, villas and cottages, artfully positioned in generous gardens. The famous Pond is a natural feature that was developed in Victorian times into the wonderful village centrepiece it is today. The village is close to but sheltered from the sea, and enjoys sandy and quiet beaches. A stay in Bonchurch is lovely at any time of year. There is always something to do, from watching the ducklings on the pond in early summer to the fabulous autumn colours to dramatic coastal walks in winter.
The property has FREE Wifi.
