Stay elsewhere! No AC, no fan, no elevator. Staff unwilling to help with broken ac. We could sleep as it was 98 degrees F in our room. We carried 2 large suitcases up 3 flights of stairs to a room with no ac or fan. After 1 sleepless night we decided to check out in the morning. Staff was nothing but argumentative about everything. No refund, no apology, no attempt to help with the matter. We checked into a neighboring hotel and had a lovely rest of our stay.

Perfect location and easy to find. Only 5 minute walk from the train station and a few minutes walk to the ferry. Basic room but extremely clean and everything needed. Would definitely stay again.

Unlike pics there was no view of the lake. No parking and wifi did not work both nights. 2nd time we reported no wifi the hotel desk clerk said it was impossible! Room was very dated and entryway smelled musty. Breakfast was meagre and the bacon was never restocked. Only positive was proximity to promenade

The hotel is very convenient from the train station and to the ferry dock. The young woman who greeted me was most friendly. The breakfast was quite disappointing in quality and portions. The only hot breakfast item, eggs and bacon, ran out quickly and was not refilled. The hotel had an unpleasant cleansing agent smell.

The Montecodeno is a short walk from the train station and Lake Como. The lobby is at the street level but you have to go outside and up a flight of stairs to access your room. We didn’t mind the walk but it may be difficult if you have mobility issues. Our room was nice but not spacious by American standards (which is typical in Italy). Even though the bathroom and shower were very small, we managed just fine. Everything in our room was very clean. They have daily room cleaning! A very nice breakfast is included with lots to choose from. They ask you if you would like a hot beverage coffee, tea, etc and then bring it to your table. There’s a small patio off the dining area where you can enjoy breakfast or an afternoon refreshment. They have a large refrigerator stocked with drinks and snacks available 24/7. You simply let them know what you consumed when you check out. This was our first stay in Varenna and we would definitely stay at the Montecodena again. Great value too.

Great place to stay in Varenna
This hotel was great! Some reviews complained of small rooms and although the room was not spacious, it was certainly adequate and the bed was excellent. The bathroom was fully stocked with amenities and there was very hot water to shower. Breakfast was huge and offered a wide selection to suit most international travelers. The hotel was also very quiet, I've stayed closer to the square in Varenna and it is very loud (church bells, parties, street noise), none of that here but it is only a quick walk to all the action.

Very pleasant, convenient Varenna hotel just a few steps from the ferry docks and a short walk from the train station. Staff was excellent and breakfast was very good. Lots of choices. No lakeside view from rooms but so close it didn't matter.

Great place! It was in a quiet location. Short walk to the ferry, train station, and to the main part of the town. Room was clean, staff members were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was awesome - had a great selection of food options.

The hitel is very close from the train station (5 min) and to the ferry (2 min). The breakfast was very nice as well. However, we stayed in room 10 and although we had the ac set to the lowest setting, it still dint get cooler than about 77-78 degrees. This may most likely be typical for europe. Also, the bathroom was extremely cramped. You have to basically stand in the shower in order to use the toilet and the shower was so small that you could hardly turn around. Additionally, the floor was slippery, i slipped iin the first 30 min we were there just coming out of the bathroom into the room. The staff was very nice and helpful. Just an older building with few updates.

Hotel gave clear instructions to get there from the train station. The walk from station is scenic . Just be prepared to walk in an incline and walk up stairs to get to the accomodation. Pack lightly if possible. Hotel is walking distance to the ferry and to the main area where the food is.

From the start this hotel was a disappointment. The decor is sad, and it feels like an old fashioned hospital. The bathroom was not practical at all. It almost dampened our stay in Varenna. I truly just want to erase it from my memory. Please search carefully. There’s not even a view. The WiFi barely works. Safe didn’t work. Toilet paper was a joke. The floors seemed to have been cleaned with dirty mop water and bleach. Run! Positives, warm water with pressure. Good a/c. Fairly close to transportation and restaurants.
