"We had a most delightful two day stay at the Casa do Santo. Our wonderful host, Maria was full of local and historical knowledge and made us feel very welcome. Many generations of her family have tended the winery upon which this beautiful boutique hotel is built. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with beautiful views of the vineyards. Everything was first rate. The breakfast was outstanding and the hotel offers tapas and their very own fine wine in the evening. The hotel is located in a charming little village on the side of the valley with stunning views. You can literally hike from your room through the village down the side of the valley through ancient terraces with vineyards and olive groves. The trails leads down to the Douro River and should not be missed. Our stay was truly magical. "

"For us, this was a great choice. A quiet location and we had a view of the river from our room and also from the common area patios. The hotel clerk gave us excellent advice to take the scenic train from the station across the street which was a wonderful experience. He also showed us a scenic drive through the wine country with a detour to a lookout point which was breathtaking. However this is a very isolated location with one restaurant next door and one across the street. We did have a great meal at the next door restaurant. But if you are looking for lots of dining options this is not the place to stay. The room itself was a bit small and not recently updated. But it was very quiet and we had the window open all night with a nice breeze off the river. Breakfast was a full buffet with lots of options. "

"Great location and excellent room. Very surprised to stay in an Ibis that had so much character. Breakfast was also very good and the breakfast room has glass floors that allow a view to the old city underground—very cool. Would stay again and highly recommend. "

"We stayed in the bungalows which were private and had gorgeous wall-ceiling view onto vineyards. Very spacious bedroom and bathroom included lots of closet space and a small fridge. Nice pool, but the weather was a little cool for checking that out. Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Service in the dining area could have been more friendly and attentive. However, we appreciated full breakfast included and the option for dinner (fixed menu) or tapas in the evening since there are no other options without driving to another town or down to Pinhão."
