Some more information about the area in general:
For information about the area please visit the tourist information office in Golfe Juan. It is in the old port, next to the west beach. More information can be obtained at the tourist office in Juan les Pins and Antibes. The tourist center in Antibes also offer walking guided tours in the Old Town of Antibes.
Shopping and restaurants in Golfe Juan:
Walk to town center, close to the railway station, and there you will find 3 supermarkets and bakeries and butcher and fish markets.
There are also around 40 restaurants in Golfe, most of them around the two ports. Generally speaking they are all in the same price range. Lunches have special price, lower than evening dinners. I personally think Le 61 is one of the best restaurants, with good meat.
The Cargo Restaurant is lively on Fridays and Saturdays with live music.
The most locally colored bar is Le San Pedro. Next to it is a micro brewery with some nice beers.
The beach restaurants are a bit more expensive, but it is a great to sit in the sand, enjoying a drink or something to eat. When you walk to Juan les Pins, do not miss Hotel Belles Rives, with the authentic bar from 1920s.
Normally the waiter write the exact sum when he or she charges your card. If you want to tip it is good to have some cash in your pocket.
Not to be missed: Vallauris, the closest town on the other side of the hill behind Golfe Juan, is a wonderful artistic town with many potteries. The bitter marmalade made locally in Golfe Juan can be bought in the garden center Cooperative Nerolium in the center of Vallauris. The local Picasso museum in Vallauris is well worth a visit.
Some personal suggestions: We always like to walk around Cap d’Antibes (Le Rentier du Littoral). It is the seaside track between plage Garoupe and the ”Baie des Milliardaires”. The track takes 1 hour. Walk all the way from the house or go by car or take the train to Juan le Pins/Antibes.
We also like the rocky beaches on the western side of Cape d’Antibes. Bring something to eat and drink, there are no bars there.
In Cannes we always visit the Forville market. In the south-west corner you can have 6 oysters and a glass of white wine for 10 euro. It is a morning ritual, they may close at 13.00. Another nice market is in Old Antibes.
If you like sand beaches and get tired of Golfe Juan - we recommend the beach in Theoule sur Mer, Plage de Aiguille. Take the train to Theoule sur Mer or try to find a parking on the street high above the beach.
Beyond Theoule sur Mer you have the Esterelle mountains along the coast. Try the track to Pic Roux, 454 meter above sea level. Fantastic views. The track starts just opposite the bus stop ”Cap Roux”. It takes 3-4 hours up and down.
