Mapua Heights Cottage; 'a gem among gems'

Mapua Heights Cottage is a comfortable and stylish two-bedroom holiday cottage with magnificent views. It offers privacy, space and the opportunity to relax in a stunning rural setting. It is just 5 minutes drive from Mapua, with its picturesque wharf, popular cafes and restaurants and unique shops and galleries.



New Zealand art and sculpture feature in the cottage. A pot-belly stove keeps the whole cottage cosy in the winter, with a sturdy guard available if needed.

Our holiday cottage provides the ideal base from which to explore the Nelson-Tasman region. You may choose to enjoy the many beaches, sample the region's food and wine, visit the bustling Nelson Saturday market, tour the wineries and art outlets, have fun cycling, kayaking or walking in the area or tramping in one of the region's three National Parks. The possibilities are endless, hence many visitors choose to return.
Too much choice? Owners Vivien and Ken are on site to ensure your comfort and provide local knowledge.

Environmentally friendly, Mapua Heights Cottage:
* is built on principles of passive thermal design
* uses timber from local and renewable sources
* has many recycled windows and doors
* uses natural products wherever possible (including bed linen and cleaning materials)

Outdoor environment:
* generous deck and garden area - sit, relax and enjoy a drink (perhaps a local wine) or a barbecue
* extensive native planting
* bush walk
* many native birds (including tui, fantail, bellbird, silvereye and at times shining cuckoo and native falcon)
* quail on the lawn
* deer and sheep graze our paddocks - let us introduce you.
* views of sea and mountains
* magnificent sunsets
* dramatic night sky with minimal light pollution - view the Milky Way, Southern Cross and constellations

We even have glow-worms in our gully - Ken is happy to be your guide!

Nightly rate is for 1- 2 adults. Extra nightly charge for additional guests.

Perfect place to stay for Christmas
Vivien and Ken's place is just wonderful, and they are fantastic hosts. Ken's local knowledge and recommendations were great, and we had a lovely walk to a quiet beach on the Abel Tasmal trail.The two-bedroom home is perfect for a long or short stay, immaculately clean with great facilities, and enjoys breathtaking views over the Mapua estuary.

A little piece of paradise
We had a fabulous 7 night stay over Christmas - and it was the most perfect time. The cottage is clean, comfortable and very well equipped for an extended stay. With fantastic views out over the estuary & Rabbit Island to Nelson in the distance, the outdoor area was the perfect spot to sit and relax. Many thanks to Ken & Vivien (and carrot-loving Nina!) for a fabulous stay.

A charming and very comfortable 2 bedroom cottage with nice outdoor living, and friendly interesting hosts. The house is full of character, and we enjoyed the natural environment around us, and the gorgeous view out to the bay and mountains.

We just loved the house, the views and location -- as well as our wonderful host, Ken. We loved feeding the doe, Nina, and the natural surroundings. The house had everything we needed and we enjoyed keeping the wood fire burning. Kitchen, bathroom up to date and beautifully done, bedroom comfortable, plenty of kitchen supplies, linens and all. Lovely outdoor area and bbq, although it was a bit cold for sitting outside. Would love to return there and absolutely recommend it.

This cottage is just gorgeous!
This cottage is just gorgeous! What a great location and amazing views! We felt like we were right in the middle of everything; halfway to Nelson and halfway to the beautiful Kaiteriteri. We found some local gems while exploring and enjoyed what was a wonderful holiday! Thank you Vivien and Ken. We will be back!

Perfect stay with the most welcoming hosts
We had an amazing stay here. Vivien and Ken were great hosts and were kind enough to walk us around their property showing us glow worms, their pet deer Nina, Humphrey the ram and also managed to point out to us a shining cuckoo chick in the bushes. The cottage was beautiful and clean with amazing views. Could not recommend more! Thanks Vivien and Ken!

Lovely Cottage with Warm Hospitality
What a fantastic stay! We spent 8 nights in New Zealand and our only regret is that we only spent three nights at Mapua Heights Cottage. Wish we would have spent more time here as the cottage is so peaceful and serene. Ken went above and beyond in making sure we had all we needed and even taking us to see the nearby glowworms on night. His hiking suggestions were spot on and very much appreciated. The weather was a bit rainy while we were there but we didn’t mind having to be inside as the cottage has windows and views from every room. Kitchen was well equipped and we cooked breakfast and dinner several days. Very easy access to main highway yet no sounds other than the birds. Wood burning stove kept us warm as they were having unseasonably cold and wet weather. If we make it back to NZ, Mapua Heights Cottage will definitely be on our agenda.
