Unique panoramic house in Salina

No other house in Salina has such a stunning position as Casa Arturo. The house, rustic and simple in its furniture, boasts a panoramic terrace that offers a privileged view of the sea, of the beach of Punta Scario and of its 'faraglioni’.

Casa Arturo stands alone along the only path that leads to the beach of Punta Scario. The village of Malfa, with its shops, restaurants and cafe is within walking distance.

The house consists of 2 floors (tot. 90 m2) and has two entrances. A living room with a dining table, a bathroom with shower and a basic kitchen are on the ground floor.

An internal stairway leads to the first floor and onto two double bedrooms both with sea view. Please note that the access to the second bedroom is via the first bedroom and that the ceiling is low (2 meters).

Salina is the greenest and perhaps the most beautiful of the seven Aeolian Islands, and offers restaurants, beaches, villages and an authentic island life. Salina can be reached by ferry and hydrofoil from Sicily, Naples or Reggio Calabria. Milazzo (40 km west of Messina) is the main departure point for the Aeolian Islands. Ferries and hydrofoils leave daily and stop in several islands. It takes 1hr 30 minutes to reach Salina by hydrofoil and 3hr 40 minutes by ferry. In Salina ferries arrive in the harbours of Rinella or Santa Marina di Salina. Cars and mopeds can be rented here. It is possible to book a transfer with into Sicily from the harbour to the house (25 euro) and then rent a moped in Malfa. Please note that ferries are not always departing in the evening. Therefore we advice guests to book a flight that arrive early in Sicily or the day before the rental starts. The updated timetable is available on the website of the carriers companies.

Salina is home to a wide variety caves and submerged volcanic craters. It is the most fertile of the Aeolian Islands and famous for its capers and the sweet Malvasia wine. The island is not as crowded as Lipari or Volcano and less fashionable than Panarea, but boasts beautiful landscapes, excellent restaurants and shops. A bus service connects the villages and the most beautiful sites on the island. Cars and mopeds are available for rent in the main villages. There are excellent opportunities for walking. For example to Capofaro (lighthouse) that is set on the north coast of Salina and boasts stunning views of Panarea and Stromboli (on a clear night it can be possible to see its eruptions). The inactive volcanoes Monte Fossa delle Felci and Monte dei Porri gave the island its original Greek name 'Didyme' (meaning twins) The conical mountains are 965 and 860 metres high and provide excellent walking.

Still paradise
This was our fourth stay at Arturo, the last two years jettisoned at the hands of Covid. It’s every bit as special as it always was: perhaps more so with the recent upgrades to the bathroom and elsewhere around the house. A stylish bathroom fit out with bespoke shelves made by Simone make the place feel boutique hotel level, whilst the colourful furnishings carry through the house - Tiziana’s work I think! The main draw to this place is the location: an unparalleled view over Spiaggia da Scario and, given it’s orientation, unspoiled sunsets every evening. Sleeping to the sound of waves is incredible! Access isn’t easy, it’s true, so those with mobility or fitness issues may find it a little daunting. But so, so worth it. We have of course booked for 2023 because we’re not yet done with this idyllic place. I can’t see that we ever will be.

We had an amazing time here. The view is spectacular. We will be back. The interiors are dated but have character. We cooked dinner there two nights (pasta as there is only a gas stove top) and ate out the rest of the time (about a 15 minute hike up a steep but charming hill to town). We're fit and love a hike but this is not suitable accommodation for anyone who is not comfortable carrying their luggage up and down steep stairs and along a cliff side pathway. Our only gripes were for the price we expected more than one roll of toilet paper (for our week long stay) and basics like salt and pepper are missing from the kitchen. Also its not very private in that we constantly found people on our balcony trying to take photos of the view, or walking past the bedroom window when we were getting changed (had to keep shutters open as its the only light source in that room). A sign at the top of the stairs that says private / no entry would help. Loved it and will be back xo

Die Lage ist spektakulär. Wir haben den Aufenthalt genossen. Die Einrichtung ist okay. Die obere Etage mit den beiden Schlafzimmer hat eine sehr niedrige Raumhöhe, für grosse Leute etwas schwierig. Im Haus herrschte ein etwas seltsamer Geruch.

Salina ist eine wunderschöne, magische Insel. Das Haus liegt herausragend schön, direkt oberhalb vom Strand Spiaggia Scario, der über einige Stufen zu erreichen ist. Ausgestattet mit allem was man braucht, ist der Ausblick von der Terrasse das Highlight - einfach wunderschön, man kann sich nicht satt sehen. Und Meeesrauschen zum Einsschlafen... Im Oktober hat man noch Sonne bis zum Nachmittag, wenn der Strand bereits im Schatten liegt. Für den Strand sind Wasserschuhe empfehlenswert. Simone, Ansprechpartner auf Salina, war super freundlich und hat uns sogar frische Eier von der Insel gebracht. De Checkin war unkompliziert, den Weg zum Haus muss man einplanen, aber er macht die besondere Lage aus. In ca. 12 Min ist man am Supermarkt. Wir werden sicher wieder kommen.

Wir haben zu zweit zwei wunderschöne Wochen in Casa Arturo verbracht. Das Haus liegt einzigartig schön über dem Strand Punta Scario. Die Ausstattung lässt manchmal zu wünschen übrig: Besteck unvollständig, ein Stuhl war zerbrochen, verstopfter Duschabfluss usw. Die Sauberkeit ist nicht optimal. Die beiden Schlafzimmer sind lediglich durch einen Vorhang getrennt (keine Tür) Die Originalität, Schönheit und Lage des Hauses lässt über Manches hinwegsehen. Die Betreuung vor Ort durch Simone Sterio war phantastisch!!! Mille grazie per tutto, caro Simone! Wilfried Müller

We had the most wonderful holiday at Casa Arturo. The property will not be for everyone. But it was certainly for us. The proximity to the beach, the amazing sunset views, the easy access to fantastic restaurants and bars all made it the best holiday in a long while. As the website listing suggests, the location and character of this property are so unique that they will by their very nature provide you with memories that should last a lifetime. The facilities are present to allow you to to experience a typically Aeolian lifestyle, including wood-barbecuing, dining and doing laundry on the panoramic terrace should you choose to, and sleeping and waking to the vista and sound of the sea. Tiziana, the off-island manager and interior decorator, is accessible, engaged and enthusiastic; Simone, the on-island manager is generous, helpful and full of practical knowledge. Here are three very minor potential inconveniences that may surprise visitors from North America or Northern Europe: 1) The upstairs bedrooms have ceiling beams that extend as low as 5'9'' and require some attention from taller visitors. 2) As seen in the website photos, the only separation between the terrace and a high vertical cliff is a low-backed built-in seating bench that could provide a risk for overly adventurous children. 3) As is often the case in Italian residences, the electrical supply is limited. We found that using the toaster oven when the hot water heater was heating would trip the breaker and extinguish the electricity to the house. This is easily corrected by turning of the toaster oven and then flipping the power switch back on in the fusebox, which is located on the indoor wall to the right of the upstairs external door. None of these minor concerns should deter visitors from creating unforgettable memories in this truly unique property.

Es war einfach perfekt! Das Haus ist so wunderschön gelegen und die Aussicht überwältigend. Es sind nur ein paar Stiegen zum Strand und 10 Minuten durch idyllische Gässchen bis zu dem Dorfplatz mit gemütlichen Restaurants und ganz viel „Italianita“! Überhaupt eine wunderschöne Insel mit vielen Blüten und umgeben von kristallklarem Wasser. Wir sind begeistert! Elke

Die Lage des Hauses ist einmalig. Direkt am Meer, jeden Abend tolle Sonnenuntergänge. Am Strand eine nette Bar, mit freundlicher Bedienung. Glasklares Wasser, ideal auch zum Schnorcheln. Badeschuhe von Vorteil, da alles steinig. Die Küche ist gut ausgestattet, leider war der Kühlschrank, Backofen und das Geschirr nicht ganz so sauber von den Vormietern hinterlassen worden. Das Bad sah neu renoviert aus und das Wasser kam mit viel Druck, was in Italien nicht oft der Fall ist :) Am Anfang gab es Probleme mit dem WLAN, welche aber sofort behoben wurden und danach funktionierte dieses einwandfrei. Bei Problemen wird hier sofort geholfen, dies schätzten wir sehr. Wir haben dieses Objekt gebucht, da wir Ruhe und Erholung suchten. Dies konnten wir meistens geniessen. Da der Weg zum Strand aber seitlich am Haus vorbei führt, hat man oft unerwünschte Blicke auf die Terrasse. Mit einem einfachen Sichtschutz könnte man dies vermeiden. Es hat zwei Liegestühle auf der Terrasse und diese ist immer etwas windig, das war sehr angenehm. Wir schätzten die Nähe zum Dorf, dort hat es viele tolle Restaurants und Geschäfte. Für grössere Einkäufe benutzten wir jedoch unser Mietauto, da es doch steil hoch geht. Abschliessend war dies ein traumhafter Urlaub, die Lage des Hauses ist einfach atemberaubend und das ständige Rauschen des Meeres war für uns sehr beruhigend.

STUNNING LOCATION
The most amazing location in Malfa! You definitely need to be in good physical health because groceries, car rental, restaurants + bars are about a 10-15 min steep uphill climb but so worth it. Honestly the best stay I've ever had, relaxing + serene. Beach house vibe with a beautifully renovated modern washroom, looks brand new. My only recommendation would be to have coffee available for guests. We arrived too late to pick up groceries, and coffee is a morning must have for me. Fabulous stay, highly recommend staying here.

Another stay in heavenly Salina...
So happy to be back on the little rock in Malfa. Our experience was very positive, and the team is extremely responsive to any issues that arise. We hope that the owners continue to invest in the house's maintenance (there are signs of aging since we last visited), but keep the rustic, authentic feel of the place. Only real downside was the hyper-colorful new "decor", which was definitely not suited to the natural beauty of the place. Less-is-more! Will always treasure out times here... Grazie!

La casa è in una posizione mozzafiato su una scogliera a ridosso della baia di Punta Scario, circondata dal mare, è un posto perfetto per immergersi nella natura. E' ampia, curata e funzionale, entrambe le camere da letto al secondo piano si affacciano sul mare, è un'esperienza unica addormentarsi con il suono delle onde, vedere nitidamente il cielo stellato o intravedere gli zampilli del vulcano di Stromboli di notte! La casa è a pochi gradini dalla spiaggia e a 5 minuti a piedi dal centro abitato di Malfa con tutti i servizi. L'accoglienza e in generale il servizio informazioni sono stati impeccabili.
