We are in a very priviliged location, in the small hamlet of Lakeside. The super West Windermere Way footpath is a 2 minute walk from us, or walk across the road to the Lakeside Pier and catch a steamer boat up the Lake to Bowness and Ambleside, or the little ferry running the 5 minute trip across to Fell Foot Park. The 4 star Lakeside Hotel with 2 restaurants and bar is a 2 minute walk, as is the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam train, and the Lakeside Aquarium. We love the 1 mile stroll down the West Windermere Way footpath along the bottom of the Lake to the Swan, with its lovely marina, paddleboarding, great pub with real fires and super outside seating area alongside the River Leven, not to mention their fantastic Holte Spa.
Lots of varied walks from the door, including High & Low Dam, Finsthwaite, or take the footpath up the western shores of the lake to Sawrey and catch the ferry & steamer back to Lakeside for a full day out.
All the busier spots of the South Lakes are so easily accessible - a gorgeous scenic drive up the west of Lake Windermere & Esthwaite to the honeypot village of Hawkshead, or continue a bit further to Ambleside. Grizedale Forest with its mountain bike trails & hire, and of course Go Ape, is a short drive. Or in the opposite direction, we are well placed for a short drive to lovely Cartmel, home to L'Enclume, sticky toffee pudding, The Races and Holker Hall!
We provide a full information pack with suggestions, and lots of walking books & routes at the property. We also have a couple of large maps of the South Lakes on the walls so you can plan your day ahead and see where you've been.
We have spent many great holidays here with family and friends, and feel it's the best location in the Lakes!
