This place might not be for everyone. It has uneven stone floors, swords on many walls, steep narrow stairs and, yes, even a dungeon. But, if you’re open to an unique experience that will add fantasy and whim to your Tucson visit, then we highly recommend that you stay at Mollohan Castle! The owner, Danny, is a kind, friendly and helpful host. In fact, his peaceful personality is a contrast to the armed castle-theme, and that just adds to this memorable and eclectic Tucson experience.
My husband and I, our college-aged daughter, two teen-aged sons and a friend all stayed here comfortably over a long weekend. My youngest son was a little spooked by the visit to the dungeon when we first arrived. But even he warmed up to the castle theme and was soon exploring the place, and was especially charmed by the outdoor spiral stairway. We all had a great time here. The house is close to the Saguaro National Park, where we spent a lot of the weekend, and it was easy to drive back into town for fun shopping and dinner in the evenings.
