1920's Historic Mountain Home
The property has undergone a complete modernization renovation upgrade that retains the original character of this historic shingle-style 1920's Mountain Estate. Designed by American Architect Shannon Merriweather, and perched on a ridge with 180 degree views of Warrior and Melrose Mountains, this house is fully furnished with 16 Persian rugs, 3 deep soaking tubs, and an eclectic mix of antique furniture. The sunsets and mountain views from the porch of the West facing deck and Juliette balcony offer a secluded sanctuary that is conveniently located just 1 mile from Tryon's charming Cafe le Gaule creperie/bakery, Art Deco movie theater, art gallery, beer and wine store, bistro, Irish pub, pizzerias, and grocery store- The house has two Queen Size beds, three full size beds, and 6 twin beds. One Queen and one Queen size bed share the master bath/shower on the main floor. The upstairs full size has its own deep soaking "bateau" in the full bathroom. The two twins have an adjacent "water closet" toilet at the top of the stair, and a sink in the bedroom. There is another full bath/shower on the ground floor with 1 bedroom with a full bed and a passage hallway with two twins, and a third bedroom with a full size and a twin bed in an "en suite" arrangement. There is also a sleeping porch with a twin bed. This property is 13.2 miles from TIEC (Tryon International Equestrian Center) 1 mile from Main Street Tryon, 7 miles from Saluda, 5 miles from Landrum, and 2.5 miles from Columbus, NC.

We come to Tryon every year for Thanksgiving. This is our favorite property due to the nice gathering spaces, fireplace, spectacular views, and proximity to town. The kitchen is well-stocked and the bedrooms are comfortable.
I rented this spot for some of my closest friends to stay for my wedding. The house is gorgeous, quiet, and secluded, and made for the perfect gathering place for everyone to meet, make a pancake breakfast, and spend time around the fire. I highly recommend it to bring people together.
WE REALY LOVED THE PROPERTY. EVERYTHING WAS SO CONVENIENT FOR OUR CROWD. PLENTY OF ROOM FOR EVERYONE.
HAVING EVERYTHING YOU NEED AT YOUR DISPOSAL MADE THE STAY TROUBLE FREE.
WE REALLY ENJOYED STAYING THERE.

Beautiful home!
We stayed at this property while we attended a wedding and it was perfect! The whole family loved the house and was very impressed that it was a rental property. Thank you for the hospitality!
PS we had a hoot owl right outside! Loved to see it!
Richard's property is simply incredible. I loved the feel of the older house but all the modern touches. The back porch with the fire pit overlooking the woods was so tranquil and peaceful! This house was simply incredible! I'll be back!
We absolutely loved our stay at Richard's home!
Every room in the home feels like a cozy, warm piece of art! Richard has thought through every detail. The beds are very comfortable, and the mountain backdrop to the home is stunning! The home had everything a guest may need. We brought 11 ladies for a retreat and everyone loved the home!

Excellent experience at a truly special house.
It’s difficult to describe what a treasure this house is until you see it. It’s historic, comfortable, scenic, and spacious. As soon as we checked in, our entire extended family started debating whether we would ever leave. Richard was a great host and fast communicator. If you’re looking for a special family getaway or a romantic mountain weekend, this house should be on your shortlist.

Overall a very good experience. The Host was very helpful. He gave us suggestions of restaurants and activities to do. The house was a little outdated. We had to do some dusting and cleaning before we even unpacked.
Eclectic in the best sense of the word. We had many discussions about the house and property itself. The owner actually had an informative binder of construction and upgrade history. The owner had every possible necessity stocked and available. It was the perfect space for our annual reunion.
We had 10 people on our team stay here and it was a great gathering place for 10 people. The bathroom and bedroom situation left a little to be desired as there are really only 3 bathrooms and 4 toilets. There are 11 beds altogether but 4 of them are in close quarters. Thankfully our male/female mix worked out but I'd make sure it works for your group. The kitchen had plenty of dishes and tools and was well stocked with spices and such. Plenty of fire wood for the fireplace and back porch fire pit. Our team thought is was a really cool old house. I'd recommend it for a tight knit group or a family.
Pony Club National Championships at Tryon International Equestrian Center
We stayed at Richard's beautiful house while in town for Pony Club National Championships at the Tryon International Equestrian Center. We had 9 Pony Clubbers competing in Championships and parents along on the trip to watch, volunteer and of course pay for all the fun.
The home was nice and relaxing. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out. We enjoyed two dinners for everyone at the house. The adults enjoyed sitting on the back deck watching the sunset. I loved watching all the different birds that came to the bird feeder right outside the little room where I set up my computer for work.
Richard had everything we needed for our visit. Everyone had a great time. I know we would all visit again. Thanks for being such a great host. Jennifer Yudow
The english meaning for the Spanish word 'encanto' can be charm, enchantment or magic. This house has all of those qualities.
From the splashes of color in various rooms to the puzzles, chess board and many comfortable sitting areas to read a book or to share an inmate conversation with love ones, there is definitely captivating charm.
Upon arrival the house draws you in to explore. With three floors and a few steps down to the living room each hallway, room, nook and cranny is an adventure. So much so, my granddaughters and I went on an exploration to find Bruno, the mysterious uncle in the Disney movie Encanto that nobody talks about. He lives in the walls of the house and the main character, Mirabel, eventually finds him. We were mesmerized by the enchantment and discovery of the secret room (the boiler room) that had clothes and a pair of shoe that we think belong to Bruno! There was even a door that lead outside so he could escape if he wanted to! All squeaks and giggles kept us exploring for quite a long time then Papa needed a nap.
As our stay lasted for two nights and three days, there were certainly plenty of time share with the whole family. The most magical moment was working on the big puzzle on the dining room table. It started with Abby and Grampa Donald but concluded at 11:05 PM with everyone trying to finish and Grampa Donald placing the last piece to complete the puzzle. A big cheer with raised glasses was a tribute to our stay and the love of family!
Our group of adults came together from several locations to celebrate a milestone birthday. The house was intriguing and full of cubbies and nooks; perfect gathering rooms and outdoor spaces; and well stocked with linens, kitchenware, and other supplies. We can see ourselves returning to this magical place again and again.
This home is really beautiful. It's very obvious that it's been well taken care of, there is so much charm in every room. We had our intimate wedding in the backyard with a dinner reception set up in the driveway. I could not imagine a more beautiful, peaceful setting. Richard was very responsive and helpful prior to our stay , it was clear to me that he wanted this to be a good experience for us and our families.
This was the perfect property to host our newly joined families. My husband and I had our wedding nearby and Richard’s house was the perfect place for our families to spend time together. We absolutely loved the back porch for the evenings.
My family stayed at this amazing home for Christmas. The view from the back deck was spectacular. The host had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. He even had the fireplaces all set up so we only had to light the kindling to enjoy a fire on our first night. This was very appreciated! It was within easy driving distance of the quaint town of Tryon. Perfect house for great Christmas memories!
We got married here and can't say enough how well this place fit our needs. Owner was very accommodating and there so much space to work with for photos, videos and entertaining guests. 5* rating in my opinion, looking forward to our 5 year anniversary there in 2026.
This home is simply amazing and extremely unique! It’s zen vibe gave us fabulous energy as soon as we walked through the front door. Everything was just as the pictures depicted (no trick photography!). The host was extremely nice, very accessible, and he left quality information about the area. He also supplied us with a great deal of firewood for outside and inside fire areas. The house is a work of art, and we wanted for nothing- truly a once in a lifetime experience!
We enjoyed hanging out downtown in an art gallery and listening to live music at Huckleberry’s. Saluda is another cutie with all kinds of neat little shops. The Purple Onion is a must for lunch. If you like ice cream, you need to make the trek to The Ice Cream Barn in Mill Springs- wow!
The close by hiking and kayaking was breathtaking. Do not miss Pearson Falls as it is around the corner and an easy, short hike to get to.
All around, one of the best experiences ever, and this home is close to it all!
We had a large group of 17, and this house accommodated us well. (Households did have to share bathrooms with another one, but this was not a surprise.) Everything was exactly as described, and more.
The house itself was truly unique, both in terms of design and also interior decor. And there was more than we expected in terms of amenities (gourmet coffee beans plus a grinder as well as K cups, marshmallows and great "sticks" with arms that extended for roasting, plenty of towels, and more. Sometimes we had to search for things but this was because there were so very many places to look!) .We appreciated that most windows opened (most but not all had screens) to allow for good ventilation. There was helpful information left by the owner, who was also really accommodating in terms of our special requests.
We had rented this property for a periodic college buddy get together. We had 7 people planned, but only 6 of us could make it. There was more than enough space and the location was wonderful. The character of the 1920's era home was very unique and fun to explore. The view was great and the location was quiet.
Kitchen was functional and we enjoyed the use of the gas grill right outside as well. We also had one night with the fire pit- which was nice.
Richard was very responsive to any questions or issues. He let me know beforehand that there was an unfortunate issue with one of the HVAC units. The sleeping quarters were cool as he promised, but we did have to leave the windows open for the living spaces- no a big deal as the weather was pretty good. It worked fine.
The space was charming. I would say if I had a really large group of 10 plus be aware of the bathroom situation. It worked for 6 guys, but 2 of the 4 bathrooms are located through one of the bedrooms. So with a larger group this would have been a challenge. It was the only drawback to the property.
Overall it was a great stay and loved the character of the home.
