No hot water! Trash was overflowing!
They removed the control module from the water heater. I presume this is to prevent guests from adjusting the temperature so they can save a few bucks. No one responded until the next day - only to tell me that it was going to be 2+ weeks before they could fix it! They offered to move us, but we that would have required us to cancel the activity we signed up for and lose our deposit... There was no toilet paper or trash bags. A big deal because they will fine you $100 if the trash isn't bagged and placed in the bear box. The bear box was overflowing with trash! Unbelievably unresponsive to these issues. The worst part was they offered some sort of compensation to make up for all of this, but have gone dark since our stay ended. Wish I could upload pictures to show people how bad this was!!!

Horrible Management
Incredibly poor communication. It took days to get responses to simple questions and it felt like the answer was always just no because it was easier for them. Really disappointed.

A disappointment, esp. the property manager
We had a bad experience at Jeffrey Pines—partly on account of the property and partly on account of the property management company. I’ll explain below, but in fairness, let me first echo others' compliments: this is a cute, well-appointed house, and it’s convenient (by car or bike) to Truckee’s main commercial areas. It's also dog friendly, a big bonus. Yes, you can hear traffic on I-80 from the house—we found that noticeable but only bothersome when Harleys roared by. As for the problems with the property and furnishings, the place is showing wear. The hand/guardrail to the staircase into the house has quite a bit of dry rot. One of the 4x4 posts that prevents the rail from collapsing if you fall into it was loose. One of the stair treads was, too. That matters a lot at this place: the house stands on a steep slope, and the stairway cantilevers out over a big drop. (The parking area is upslope from the house; hence the stairs.) You would not want to fall off these stairs—it’s a long way down. The mattress in the main bedroom was also soft; it seemed overdue for replacement. As for the management company, I’d term its staffers “faux attentive.” They send lots of texts and emails, saying they’re there to help. But when we had problems—besides the stairway, the wi-fi stopped working—they responded with pleasant nothings. They didn't solve our problems, and we ended up moving to a hotel. The wi-fi, while not the end of the world, is a good illustration. When we awoke one day, it wasn’t working, so I restarted the router. That didn’t work, so I contacted the management company, saying I’d restarted the router. The response: Did you try restarting the router? We then went for a hike, returning at lunchtime. Still no wi-fi. I texted again, saying, like many people these days, we needed to work remotely and needed wi-fi. The response this time: sorry, wi-fi’s not reliable in that area. That wasn't disclosed in the VRBO listing. What's more, the wi-fi was working fine at my friend’s house nearby. Eventually, they sent a local property manager by, and her solution was ... to restart the router. It didn’t work that time, either. The management company did offer us a $50 refund on account of the wi-fi. By then, I’d also alerted them to the problems with the stairway, and we’d decided we needed to had to find another place to say--we ended up in Reno, 40 minutes a way.

Great experience in a classic A-frame
It's a fun space and there are two decks on the back for enjoying the outdoors (my husband kept calling it our "treehouse"). My favorite detail was the work space in the kitchen with a 270-degree view and nice cross breeze. The downstairs bedroom stayed cool all day and was delightful at night with the window open. The main level got warm in the day, but cooled down with ventilation. We usually returned from our outdoor adventuring just in time to open the windows and doors and air it out. We didn't use the loft and I have to consider it a no-go in the summer, but it must be so much fun in the winter! The photos are spot on and the kitchen is well-equipped. Some recent renovation work, like an all-new kitchen and the new deck build, show that this property is on the right track. Would be nice with more lounge furniture. Should have brought our camp chairs! Easy access to Donner Lake and downtown Truckee by bike.

Could have been better
Property had not been cleaned at check-in time. It was filthy. Management company sent cleaning company but never contacted us to let us know it was ready as they said they would. We came back three hours later to check for ourselves. It had been cleaned but they never contacted us. Queen bed was old and was very squeaky. Not comfortable. Bathroom shower was coffin-like with a showerhead that was like a firehose. Water got everywhere. The living area and kitchen were nice.

Great cabin
Everything was great aside from the check in. Seems like other guests had the same issue with getting in using a code, then have to contact VRBO to get a lockbox code. Just seems like a persisting issue that should be addressed. I also contacted them prior to arrival to confirm this wouldn't be an issue. Other than that, the unit itself is great and well stocked. Great location as well

Cute spot in excellent location
We enjoyed our stay at the home and found the location perfect for our needs. The freeway noise was not that bad, since we visited in winter and we kept windows closed. The code to access the rental didn't work right away but with a call and a short wait we were able to get in. There was a situation that I contacted the host with and they did a good job to make me feel reassured and heard.

5 Night Stay
My husband, our 3.5 yr old son, our German Shepherd and myself stayed in this cozy cabin for 5 nights in July. It is exactly as described and looks exactly as the pictures show. All appliances worked well, the kitchen was FULLY stocked, the view of the pines was so nice every morning with our coffee, and it is nicely spaced from the neighbors. A couple suggestions to the owners, we couldn’t find any steak knives or a grill brush to clean the BBQ. Also takes a while for the cabin to cool down at night but an extra fan to pull in the cold air would help. Screen doors would be a great addition to help keep bugs out. The loft had some spider webs between the beds and there was an enormous camel cricket on the nightstand in the master bedroom when we arrived. We had a good laugh trying to catch it and our son enjoyed playing with it before letting it go. The second night I found a firmer pillow that made sleeping more comfortable. The master bed was comfy, the 3 of us squeezed into it each night, the loft wouldn’t be safe for our 3 yr old and my husband didn’t want to sleep up there either lol. We loved staying in this cabin and would stay here again in the future. I really appreciated all of the items that were there to make our stay more enjoyable. You can tell that the owners want their guests to be comfortable and that they love their cabin. We loved the coffee shop down the street Coffee Bar Bakery (great coffee and croissants), and we got take out from the restaurant down the street Smokey’s Kitchen (loved the fried pickles) and got good pizza from Za’s also down the street. We spent a few days on the Truckee and at Meek’s Bay beach. I’ve always camped at D.L. Bliss but I think I’m the future we will continue to stay in Truckee. It’s an absolute treasure.
