Trouville sur Mer
Trouville-sur-Mer is a French commune, located in the department of Calvados in Normandy (anc. Lower Normandy) populated by 4,675 inhabitants (Trouville).
The history of Trouville dates back to the Middle Ages. The city was then a small fishing port.
This former fishing village has become a tourist destination in Normandy, particularly popular with the inhabitants of the Île-de-France.
In 1847, the town absorbs Hennequeville.
The rise of the seaside resort, which began in the nineteenth century with the fashion of sea bathing, is probably due to its attendance by a small group of painters: Charles Mozin the "discoverer of Trouville" in 1825, Paul Huet, A. G. Decamps and his pupil Louis Godefroy Jadin, Eugene Isabey, Corot, whose museum d Orsay provides at least one evidence Trouville fishing boats stranded in the channel and also Eugene Boudin. Writer Alphonse Karr has also contributed to his fame. Louis-Philippe also helped launch Trouville, which he opposed to Dieppe, the Legitimist, and it was from this station that he tried to leave for England during the revolution of 1848. Gustave Flaubert met Élisa Schlésinger there in the summer of 1836. Nicknamed the "queen of the beaches", this resort of "big purse" according to a classification of the guides Joanne is soon competed by Deauville.
Alexandre Dumas speaks about it in his Memoirs: "[...] Arriving in Le Havre, I went in search of a place to spend a month or six weeks; I asked for a village, a corner, a hole, provided it was at the seaside; I was named Sainte-Adresse and Trouville. [...] and having learned that Trouville was still more isolated, more lost, more lonely than Sainte-Adresse, I opted for Trouville. [...] Then I remembered, as one remembers a dream, that my good friend Huet, the landscape painter, the painter of the marshes and strikes, had told me about a charming village on the seaside where he had almost strangled with a ridge of sole, and that village was called Trouville. [...] In Le Havre there were infinitely more opportunities for Rio de Janeiro, for Sydney or for the Coromandel coast than there were for Trouville. Trouville, as a latitude, was then about as ignorant as Robinson Crusoe Island.
Until 1926, Trouville-sur-Mer and its township were attached to the former district of Pont-l Bishop, removed on that date.
The History of Normandy Manor which you will stay with us: The dynastic lineage at the origin of the construction of this manor is interesting.
It is Marie Louise Renault Thenard who is at the origin of the construction of the manor. Her husband died early at the age of 35 and bequeathed this land to his wife and daughter.
Louis Thenard was the grandson of the ingenious Nicolas Conte, a painter, chemist, physicist, balloonist and engineer, who invented, among other things, pencils and crayons. Gaspar Monge said of him "that he had all the sciences in his head". Nicolas's wife is a descendant of the Capetians.
Louis's father, Jacques Thénard, a chemist and professor at the Collège de France, invented blue Thenard (Cobalt Blue), white Céruse and Eau Oxygénée. He was also a professor at the Ecole Polytechnique and was replaced by Gay-Lussac. It was because he opposed the reduction of children's working time, as a peer of France, that Victor Hugo named his character Thenardier in his novel "Les Miserables".
