Carriage House;Caverns;Fiery Gizzard;Pets;S. Cumberland Parks;Bluff; Longhorns

Need a break from the stress of city life? Do you enjoy outdoor activities? Come to the Cumberland Plateau and stay at the Carriage House. If you love hiking, cycling, and outdoor activities you can do them here or practically anywhere in a thirty-mile radius, in which numerous waterfalls are located. South Cumberland State Park Visitor and Information Center is about 7 minutes away. The park, which includes Sewanee Natural Bridge, Fiery Gizzard Trail (ranked in the top 25 by Backpacker), Foster Falls, Savage Gulf, Stone Door, Greeter Falls, Meadow Trail and Grundy Lakes has some of the most noted hiking trails in the country. We’re a couple of minutes away from Coalmont OHV Park with over 1700 acres of off road trails. The Mountain Goat Trail, between Sewanee and Monteagle, is also a lot of fun. If you truly need to relax, go no further than the gardens and trails of the Carriage House. We are nestled approximately 1.5 miles from Highway 56 on part of a 400-acre farm. Our son-in-law and daughter maintain a herd of approximately 60 longhorns here, they’re very gentle. The Carriage House is the end of the trail and is quiet and peaceful. The butterfly garden attracts many visitors. It is filled with butterfly bushes, bee balm, lantana, phlox, lilies and of course, butterflies. Hostas, trilliums, and columbine make up the shade garden. Red Bud, dogwood and river birch are beautiful spring, summer, and fall. A short walk away is the duck pond. Hopefully, you'll also see a visiting Blue Heron, eagle, deer or turkey. We have built a cabin on the pond, you can watch the fish jump or other wildlife from the porch, fish from the jetty or pitch horseshoes on the dam. We've also added a picnic area with a firepit in the cabin area. From the pond, walk up the trail and visit our duck pondor go in the other direction to Buzzard Rock with its spectacular view of the gulf and Payne's Cove. We welcome a single pet at no extra charge, please let us know, we have lots of animals that could be impacted by a leashless dog. We've added a deck to the entrance for fresh air for your pet.
Are you music lovers? In March 2018, Bluegrass Underground began performances in its new home, the Caverns, at the foot of Monteagle Mountain. The Caverns showcases the two best things about Tennessee: our natural beauty and our music. The Caverns is a full-fledged music venue hosting performances year-round. Several of these concerts will air across the nation on PBS channels. Bluegrass Underground is a short, scenic drive down the mountain.

Great location and beautiful property
This wonderful property is located within very reasonable driving distance to great restaurants and other amenities in both Sewanee and Monteagle. Access to Parks and hiking trails is excellent. The property itself has a wonderful short trail with amazing bluff views and a charming duck pond. Visiting the Longhorns was fun too. The home's gardens and flowerbeds were just coming out for spring but I imagine they would be fabulous in the summer. We were traveling with our 11 month old Standard Poodle, Apollo, who gives 5 starts to everything about the woods, accommodations, and his new friends Dom and Bonnie! This place could not be more pet friendly and we surely appreciated the romps with the pups and an opportunity to throw sitcks and tennis balls to their delight. The DeLoziers were just a friendly as they can be.

Wonderful
Wonderful was the first word to come to mind. The property is lovely. We could have spent a whole trip just enjoying it and all there was to explore The carriage house is very comfortable. Felt as if I was in my own home. The animals were the icing on the cake. The dogs were amazing. They were eager to show us around the property and share their happy lives with us. There was a very friendly cat who was happiest sitting in our lap on the porch. We enjoyed the chickens and longhorns as well. We definitely hope to return one day. Perfect for a weekend or longer. We couldn’t have asked for better.

We absolutely loved The Carriage House!!
Traveling on a month-long road trip, one of our stops was a concert at The Caverns. Looking for a place close to the venue, we booked the charming Carriage House. We couldn’t have chosen a better place. Situated on a lovely farm with so many delightful features- a hiking trail with a lookout bluff, a scenic pond, gardens, and even long-horned steers. The apartment we stayed in was cozy, clean and so comfortable. And had everything we needed! The owners/hosts were ver accommodating and just super people!! We would highly recommend The Carriage House to anyone passing through this lovely countryside. We hope to be back one day!

Quiet retreat
Regardless of the spring mountain storms we had a great time. The dogs and Guinea hens provided entertainment while the longhorns quietly looked on. Great little place to get some writing done when not hiking.

Great spot for Caverns Concert
The Carriage House was a perfect spot for our long weekend centering around a concert at the Caverns. It was clean as a whistle, roomy, great bed, and conveniently located. The hosts were good communicators and met all of our needs. We also discovered some amazing hiking in the area rivaling some trails we have in our hometown Asheville.

My spouse and I were blown away when we opened the door; it was bigger than we anticipated and just beautiful inside and out! We loved the thoughtful decor and supplies, the comfy bed and peaceful location. The owners provided lots of great tips and ideas to make our stay even better. I highly recommend this property for a couple or small family.

Wonderful Getaway Location!
Attention to Detail, that is what comes to mind. Everything you need is here. A nice clean apartment, comfortable bed, and a Keurig coffee maker. There is a little trail with a spectacular bluff overlook on the property. A nice way to get the blood flowing after a long car ride. Love this area, great for outdoors enthusiasts!

Great for a couple's getaway!
Excellent, beautiful property--well-maintained! The kitchen is small but adequate for cooking your own meals (or heating pre-cooked ones) with plenty of leftover condiments/spices. Quirks: shower is small--I'm 6'0'' & 220 pounds & barely had room to turn around & couldn't effectively wash my hair. It's a working farm so the roosters start crowing before sunrise, and the dogs are very friendly and big. Make sure you arrive during daylight--very hard to navigate after dark, even with GPS. It's within an hour of several excellent hikes!

Unique property for those who love to spend time outside!
This was our second stay at the carriage house and we enjoyed it even more than the first! We love the outdoor areas to explore (trails on property and off property). Also, enjoyed just relaxing on the deck or in the yard. We enjoyed spending time with their dogs and all the animals on property. My daughter got to see 7 chickens hatch and this was a highlight of her trip. The host are very nice and accommodating also. Very unique experience and will definitely return for a third visit!

Fabulous Launch Location or A Place For Rest
Pretty perfect. This is one of those locations that I'm conflicted about saying too many good things because I selfishly want the availability to remain good for future trips to the area. There's a beautiful overlook on the property along a safe and lovely trail that will show off the area in all seasons. The doggies of the property are well-behaved and kind, and I'm grateful for a regular dog-positive place to stay. The bed was super comfortable, and my teen-son slept well on the extra long and cushy sofa. Good pressure and heat for the shower. Great assortment of books and games, and a full piano in the dining area. I played more host than guest on this trip, taking care of a few friends going through Sewanee's rigorous writing program, and I needed a good kitchen and a nice big table to talk around. The set up could not have been better. It truly offers a prime location relative to gorgeous hiking areas. But besides being a great hiker's hub, it's also a home. We'll definitely be back.

This was a wonderful little cottage to stay for a few nights that had all the amenities I would need, comfy bed, beautiful views and fun animals to play with (dogs, cat, and donkeys). I enjoyed walking to the bluffs and the duck pond with the dogs every day. Very picturesque. Also very close to fiery gizzard and greeter falls both of which were wonderful hikes! Highly recommend!

FIRST Birthday Get-away
The property was beautiful. We arrived at dark and everything was easy to find. When we woke up I walked passed the front window and was shocked at the view (past the houses). Tracy City is a wonderful town to slow down in. I recommend walking on the property, visiting the chickens and mini-donkeys, The Grudy Day Loop hike, visiting the bakery and possibly a day trip to Chattanooga, the aquarium is fun.

Just what I needed.
The apartment was very clean, well kept, nicely decorated. Comfy and home feel. At first I was disappointed it was upstairs but it worked out well for my dog. The area was beautiful, the bluff view spectacular. We walked the trails at the Carriage House property, once a day, sometimes twice. I brought a 30ft rope so Charlie would have room to check her surroundings on leash. We were startled by two large near running through the woods. We visited Foster Falls, Caldwell Rim trail, the natural bridge, Denny's Cove and a few other trails. I drove to Antioch to Pitts Dog Park so Charlie (my dog) could have off leash time. The park has an large open area and a wooded area, both well fenced. Charlie enjoyed the wooded area unleashed. We returned to the park for a short visit before our long drive home. Tennesse is beautiful.

Charming place with lovely owners
I found the Carriage House during a search for a place to stay after two nights of shows at The Caverns. Mel and Jim were simply accommodating when my plans changed; they had no problem with my friend staying in my place the first night. My boyfriend and our friend met Mel upon arrival were escorted around the beautiful property by a canine trail guide. I arrived the second night and unfortunately didn't get a chance to meet Mel or Jim. However their two dogs were very eager to greet me in the morning! Such happy faces to start the day. The unit itself was a perfect size for the two of us. Easiest check-in ever. Felt private even with owners living across the street. We both thought the bed was comfy. Overall it was pretty clean, found a couple dusty spots but that's to be expected in an older farmhouse-type of building. All contact areas seemed clean. The shower stall is small. Great DVD collection! No cable TV but wifi made streaming Sunday sports on our phones easy. Loved having a choice of Keurig pods or drip coffee. Overall great experience - wish I was able to meet the owners myself and spend more time there!

Cozy
I loved staying in the area, a very pretty property and it feels private despite being directly behind the owner's home. Things to be aware of: there is not much of a view from the carriage house to be had since it sits behind two large homes but the view is only steps away and it is beautiful. Technically you can connect to a wifi network but there is really no service. The owner's are thinking of upgrading but don't use it themselves so may be unaware of how weak the signal is. Wasn't a big deal to us but the wifi amenity should probably be removed from the listing for now. I did appreciate the comfortable furniture and bedding. The cookware could really use an upgrade so check it out before planning meals! The shower is one of those tiny closet-type ones, not shown. All in all a lovely stay and I would return but not the most accurate listing.
