Our cozy cabin in Todd is a serene getaway: kayak the New River, appreciate the cool mountain air, explore autumn leaf season, enjoy family time, or rip up the ski slopes. Just 20-25 minutes from Boone and App State. Enjoy all the high country has to offer: tubing/paddling & fishing the New River, charming towns, App State, cruise the Parkway…or stay in and relax on the porch or by the wood-burning fireplace. Newly-updated furniture, mattresses, bedding…and the cookware to satisfy most foodies.
The Space: "Lady Elaine's Cottage" is a nicely-appointed, recently-updated 3 Bedroom/2 Bath retreat on 1.5 acres in the woods that sleeps up to 7. The stone fireplace is the centerpiece of the vaulted living room, and the wood floors & natural beadboard give the space a warm, cozy feeling while the wifi gives you all the streaming and connectedness you desire (bring your login credentials!). Have your morning coffee on the covered porch and enjoy the view...grill your burgers and steaks on the front deck in the afternoon...and play some ping-pong in the basement before you finish the day with a movie from your favorite streaming service. Master suite features a King bed and a large soaking tub; 2nd BR has a Queen bed; and 3rd BR sleeps 3 with a Full sized bed + trundle. Sheets & towels are provided along with starter paper products, and checkout is hassle-free.
Guests also have access to use the 1-car garage on the basement level.
Two kayaks stored in the garage are also available for guests' use on the nearby New River.
(Seasonal notes: if it gets humid in the spring and summer, you can turn on the central air conditioning - which is not universally available in the high country; the driveway is steep so AWD or 4x4 may be necessary if it's icy or if winter weather turns severe.)
Access: Guests have access to the entire house and property, including the unfinished basement with ping pong table and a 1-car garage. The gravel road leading through the neighborhood will take you up the hill to our cottage, where you'll find ample parking in the driveway + the garage. Note that the driveway is somewhat steep, but there is a flat parking area to make loading and unloading easy. You can enter the cabin after 3pm on the first day, using the electronic door keypad at the top of the stairs that lead to the back porch. (Key codes & other instructions will be provided a few days before check-in.)
Other notes: With the cabin built on a mountainside, guests will need to walk up some outdoor stairs to get to the main level (although there is an alternate entrance with fewer stairs - message us if you need more details), and there is an interior stairwell, which does not have a door or gate, that leads to the basement & garage. Two external security cameras are installed. Some firewood is usually available but you may want to provide more (Plan B convenience store and/or Dollar General). There is a twin blow-up bed available in addition to the 7 traditional bed spots, in case it's needed.
Necessities: Linens and towels are provided/set out. For your convenience we provide an initial supply of paper towels, toilet paper, and hand soap. You will need to provide additional paper products, dish detergent, laundry detergent, etc.
