"This was more than a hotel it was more of an experience. Even the name is unique, ‘VanHa Maamies Oy’*1 is not a name that easily rolls off the tongue. The resort – we found out later that it had been a residential agricultural college, with large dormitory buildings for males and females – comprised several other buildings all looking old and tired. "Even better than the pictures suggest. The cottage is very remote but easy to find with a decent sat nav. Even though we stayed during a cold spell in June, the cottage is perfectly comfortable. The lake is beautiful to look at but we weren't able to get on it due to the weather. What is really nice is that this is someone's cottage and feels like home rather than a sterile holiday rental.
