The Space:
Willow Mountain Ridge Retreat is an unparalleled vacation rental for guests seeking more than just a home base. This 2400 square foot, custom built, luxury home is located below the bluffs of the iconic Willow Mountain and is surrounded by pristine desert mountain habitat. The only neighbors on this 125+ acre retreat and the adjoining 640+ acre private wildlife reserve that covers most of Willow Mountain are the wild animals that thrive in the Willow Mountain area. Views from the house and the property are unsurpassed, especially the views of the Willow Mountain bluffs that dramatically rise nearly 700 vertical feet from the rear deck to the top of the bluffs.

Incomparable seclusion and unobstructed views are rare at any Big Bend lodging, but unheard of at such a convenient location. The house is a mere three miles from Terlingua, ten minutes from the western entrance to Big Bend National Park, or the famous Terlingua Ghost Town. You’ll have all the seclusion of a remote ranch, without giving up the convenience of a central location.

The house was originally and lovingly built by BBNP employees that made it their home. It has been extensively renovated and furnished for use by visitors to the Big Bend. The upper level has an open floor plan with a large kitchen, two large dining tables, a lounge area, and a reading nook. There is also a full bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower. The lower level has two spacious king suites, a bunk room, TV room, and a washer and dryer. Each of the king suites and the bunkroom have full bathrooms. Outdoor living space includes a large covered upper balcony, and an upper and lower covered patio. There is also a fire ring that is county approve for small campfires, even during burn bans.

Kitchen: Fully equipped, modern kitchen. Includes large fridge, two ovens, stove, drawer style microwave, dishwasher, sink, toaster, crock pot, blender, cookware, glassware, dinnerware, flatware, and more. The perfect kitchen for preparing a quick snack or a holiday feast.

Dining: The upper level great room features two large tables and bar seating. There is also an outdoor table for dining on the upper patio.

Living Room: The upper level great room is also home to a comfortable lounge area and a small reading nook.

TV Room: The lower level has a central living room. Since it also has a TV, we call it the TV room.

Bedrooms: There are three bedrooms and six beds, all on the lower level. There are two large suites, each with a king size bed and a private bathroom. There is also a bunkroom with two twin over twin bunk beds (total of four twins) and a private bathroom.

Bathrooms: Four full bathrooms. One on the upper level and one for each bedroom on the lower level. All four bathrooms have hot & cold running water, sinks, and showers. One of the king suite bathrooms has a tub.

Laundry Room: There is a laundry room on the lower level with a full size washer and dryer.

Decks & Patios: The upper level has covered decks and patios running the full length of all four sides of the house. There is always a shady spot to relax with great views outside. The lower level has a long patio that faces the bluffs of Willow Mountain.

Fire Ring: There is a campfire ring just a few feet off of the lower level patio. It is county approved for small campfires, even during burn bans. Fires should always be kept small and never left unattended. No fires are allowed during windy conditions.

Desert Wilderness: Guests are welcome to hike and explore the 180 acres between the Willow Mountain bluff face and Tx 118. A property map is included in the photos. No rock climbing is allowed. All guests and visitors assume responsibility for their own behavior and any injuries.

Wildlife at Willow Mountain Ridge: A wide variety of desert animals and plants live in the Willow Mountain area. The most frequently seen wildlife includes mule deer, aoudad sheep, javelina, rabbits, coyotes, lots of lizards, and huge variety of birds. Less commonly seen wildlife includes Mexican black bear, mountain lions, bobcats, foxes, ringtail cats, racoons, rock squirrels, ground squirrels, badgers, elk, desert big horn sheep, and a variety of snake species. Most of the snakes are harmless, but there are four species of rattlesnake and one species of copperhead. Caution is always recommended with any wild animals. If you respect their space, they will respect yours. None of the local wildlife is prone to attacking humans. Most will be eager to avoid any contact.

If you come to the Big Bend and stay at Willow Mountain Ridge Retreat, you’ll have endless opportunities for adventure or relaxation. At the end of your visit, you can head home rejuvenated, rested, or absolutely exhausted from adventure. With all this property has to offer, you can make the experience suit your interests and desires.

Memorable Labor Day weekend
Over Labor Day weekend 2024, our family of eight (4 adults and 4 kids) had an amazing stay. The location of the house is fantastic, offering breathtaking views. For food, there are a few great options nearby, including a deli just five minutes from the house. The kids had an absolutely fantastic time, making it a truly memorable experience for everyone.

Big Bend 4-Wheeling Adventure
This house was perfect for our BBNP off-road adventure! The house was very clean and well appointed. The decor was spot on with lots of reading materials regarding the Big Bend area. There was plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the large wrap around deck. Willow Mountain is very close to Terlingua and BBNP so we could get to our destinations Quickly! The driveway is quite steep, so be ready for a little 4-wheel drive to climb the last little bit to your private getaway!

Fantastic rental
I just can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at Willow Mountain Ridge Retreat. The place was beautifully appointed and the views were spectacular. The property is only about a 3 minute drive from the highway and about a 7 minute drive into Terlingua. There are two levels each with a separate entrance. The staircase between the levels is exterior but covered. The upper level is the kitchen and living area with plenty of space to spread out. A covered deck gives fantastic views of BBNP. We often had breakfast and dinner on the deck and soaked in the views. Downstairs are the bedrooms and a TV area. The downstairs porch and fire pit were perfect for star gazing and s’mores. Guests might want to bring along a puzzle, game, or deck of cards for lazy cloudy evenings. Otherwise, you’re probably going to want to be outside. The last part of the drive to the property was quite steep. They recommend a 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle. Sadly, we had neither. We were in a 2 wheel drive rental car and the assent was unnerving, even for a driver with experience on gravel roads. But, the oasis that is Willow Mountain Ridge Retreat awaiting you at the top made it worth it! We would definitely return.

Amazing property!
Plenty of room to stay, play games and enjoy. Great location and views. Property manager was available and responsive to a couple questions. It is a somewhat steep hill as mentioned but the views and privacy are worth it! Will definitely come back.
