Fossil Knob Ridge -Rainbow: Ultra Modern Container Home

Summary:
Fossil Knob Ridge - Rainbow House: Relax is Style at this Ultra-Modern Container Home Near Terlingua Ghost Town

The Space:
High Clearance Vehicle Recommended due to rough and rocky roads.

Book your vacation at the ultimate modern vacation rentals in the rugged outback of the Big Bend region. In a land of endless mountain and desert vistas that is famed for ghost town ruins, rustic adobes, and Old West ranch homes, the Fossil Knob Ridge vacation rentals offer a unique contrast. The ultra-modern vacation rentals at Fossil Knob Ridge are contemporary homes built from recycled shipping containers. Yes, you read that right. These vacation rental homes are constructed from big metal boxes that were originally used for transporting cargo across the globe on trains and ocean freighters. The owner purchased them from a shipping company and converted them into contemporary and stylish living spaces. Don’t worry though, they are far more than just metal boxes with some furniture. Indeed, these homes offer the most neoteric lodging in the Terlingua area.

Fossil Knob Ridge offers four separate units. Each rental is similarly styled but each is unique in size, layout, design, furnishings, amenities, views, and occupancy level. The rentals are named after some of the local cinnabar mines that were the basis of settlement of this region in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The Chisos and 248 rentals sleep up to four. Chisos has a King bed and a queen fold out sofa. The 248 has two king beds. The Rainbow and Mariscal rentals are a little smaller and both sleep two, with a king bed in each.

THIS LISTING IS FOR THE RAINBOW HOUSE AT FOSSIL KNOB RIDGE.

The Rainbow House is an ultra-modern home built from two recycled 20’ shipping containers. Joined together and offset from one another to create a comfortable living space. Living area, dining area, bedroom and kitchen. Modern design, styling, and art are featured inside and out. Please view the photos for the best description.

Sleeps two guests. The bedroom has a king-sized bed. If you have a larger group, or simply want more space, we recommend booking multiple rentals at Fossil Knob Ridge. It is close by but faces away from the other rentals. All rentals have privacy and their own unique views.

Each of the Fossil Knob Ridge Rentals are on the electric grid for reliable and ample electric power. All are fully air-conditioned and heated and have modern electric appliances. Potable water is trucked in and stored in holding tanks for your use. There is plenty of water available but trucking it in is expensive. We ask that you conserve it, but not so much as to compromise your comfort.

Located just one-mile northwest of the world famous Terlingua Ghost Town and twenty miles northwest of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. Fossil Knob Ridge overlooks the Ghost Town and has breathtaking mountain views, including the Chisos Mountains and into Mexico.
Relax inside or on the shaded patio. Explore the fossil strewn 20-acre property. Drive or walk (it’s a long but enjoyable walk in good weather) into the Ghost Town to explore the historic ruins, dine, drink, enjoy live music, or hang out with local and travelers from around the globe. If you play an instrument or sing, join in on an impromptu jam, session on the porch of the old trading post. Drive into Big Bend Nation Park or Big Bend Ranch State park for endless outdoor adventures. Book a river trip, jeep tour, horseback ride, mountain bike rental, guided hike, or guided hunt. Enjoy a controlled campfire. Marvel at the night skies. Watch the stunning sunrises and sunsets. Do as much or as little as you like. Then, come back again and do even more or even less.

Guest Access:
A key code is provided after the reservation is confirmed and paid. Guests are welcome to let themselves in and make themselves at home upon arrival at or after the check-in time.

Interaction with Guests:
We manage several properties and live several miles away. We are available by phone, text, email, or messaging. We are typically only on site for cleaning or maintenance issues.

Wonderful Stay
We loved everything ! The unit was well equipped and stocked. Beautiful design and privacy. The only non 5 star rating was for location. The road leading to the containers is terrible . We drive a Subaru Outback and took it slow. I will return but next time I will rent a jeep or pickup. I have already recommended Fossil Knob Thank you

The Perfect Stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Rainbow House in Fossil Knob Ridge. The breathtaking scenery, featuring stunning views of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park, added to the overall charm of our stay. The location proved to be incredibly convenient, placing us in close proximity to the Starlite Theatre, restaurants, coffee shops, and the captivating landscapes of Big Bend. The container home itself exuded cleanliness and comfort without unnecessary extravagance. The well-appointed kitchen allowed us to prepare meals effortlessly. We were particularly enchanted by the stunning sunsets and sunrises during our stay. Without a doubt, we wholeheartedly recommend this hidden gem to our friends.

Nice views
The stay was great. We were close to Big Bend where we spent most of our days. The property was very clean and well stocked with everything you needed. The only issues that we didn't like were the drive from the base of the hill to the property. The rough road gets very tiring. We also didn't really care for being told to limit our water usage.

We enjoyed our stay in the Rainbow House at Fossil Knob Ridge. The scenery is amazing with views of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. The location is convenient to the Starlite Theatre, restaurants, coffee shops, and Big Bend. The container home was very clean and just what we needed. Nice, but no frills. We were able to prepare meals as needed in the kitchen. The sitting area windows provided beautiful views. The bed is super comfy too! There are a total of 5 container homes at Fossil Knob Ridge, and they are all set uniquely in a way that each of the homes are very private and very quiet. The road to get to the home is long and bumpy, but worth the privacy and views. We had one minor issue with 2 electrical plugs not working, but that was resolved within an hour. We definitely plan to stay again!

Perfect place to relax
This house was exactly what the listing stated and more. The house is on top on a rocky cliff and the sunsets and sunrises are gorgeous. My husband and I have wanted to hike Big Bend (both State and National parks) for years and this house was a perfect place to kick up our feet after a long day. The bed was comfortable. There was a cute seating area as well (SURPRISE…the chairs recline..figured it out on our last night. Lol). The TV isn’t something we typically care about but it was nice to have as we are baseball fans and the playoffs we’re going on. The kitchen was just enough to make some quick meals but the outside grill was appreciated! The bathroom was surprisingly spacious and fully stocked with everything we needed. We have done nothing but show off our pictures from this trip and hope to be able to bring friends back with us to stay in the surrounding containers! You will be pleased with these accommodations, I promise!

Beautiful escape
This property really was ideal! Well maintained and stocked, clean, beautiful scenery, close to Big Bend National Park, and plenty of good places to grab a bite to eat close by. Just be aware that the road to get to the cabin is extremely bumpy and difficult to navigate for newbies. It's best to get there with plenty of daylight to make it safely up the road. It was exactly what we were looking for!

Perfect stay with incredible views
Our two night stay in Mariscal House was exactly what we were seeking. Beautiful rental with jaw dropping mountain views. Stars, stars and more stars could be seen in the night sky...Clean, well equipped and nicely located to Big Bend NP. Communication and suggestions were excellent. Terlingua was a fun, yet quaint community. Starlight theater for dinner one night was convenient and delicious. We will definitely reserve Fossil Knob Ridge for our next trip to far west Texas.

Great getaway
Great place, beautiful silence and star gazing, spot, confortable and with every single thing you need, I spent my 45th Bd with my son, had never seen him so happy and excited, at nights he said he felt he was in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon :)
