Cozy home, well equipped, a nature paradise. Easy walking, relaxing views, an overlook for meditation, the property is a natural history lesson in birds, deer, rivers, geology and plants in one place. We rented for a week, I never left the property.

Lovely place
Peace and quiet and a very nice and comfortable home made our stay at The Roost a success. I only have one critique: don’t advertise a price of $ 149. 00 a night and then tack on more $ for people past two. I feel that is false advertising and a game of bait and switch. I completely understand adding pet fees or more $ for a deposit, etc. but an extra $20.00 per person per night ( our kids) who are over 18 is a bit much.
Stayed for July 4th weekend to participate in a large family event close by. Easily accomodated our family of 5 adults & baby grandson. AC, Wifi, security, view of the surrounding wildlife, & ease of being so close by were all super. Planning a return in December as well!
The Roost is that secret destination you keep looking for! It is a fantastic place to escape, enjoy nature, and watch wildlife from the big deck. The house is very clean, comfortable, and well stocked with all the basics you need. Dogs are pampered here too, with water bowls and beds ready for them upon arrival! This was our second year in a row to spend a family weekend - 7 adults and a dog, and we could not have a had a better time anywhere else.
Fantastic and very clean property. Perfect place for a long weekend relaxing with my kids away from the usual routine. The property has a secluded and very relaxed feeling. The birds and wildlife give you plenty to watch while relaxing on the large shaded back deck and gazebo. Very comfortable beds and my daughter said to mention the rugs in the house - she loved them. Easy drive into Bandera for any shopping or things you forgot, and an easy hour drive into San Antonio or to the Frio River, which we did both. Overall one of the best rental properties we've ever stayed at. We are already discussing when to go back next year!
Spent a week at this secluded property not far to out of Town. Enjoyed lots of wildlife. Lots of hummingbirds. Our pets loved the swims in the creek. Nice and quiet peaceful place.
We loved it and our dogs even more. The house has everything you need and more! The area is so peaceful and the owners/ renting company back doors representative was helpful and kind.
Great stay with lots of wildlife viewing. Great view from the perch. Owners are on property, but at the back and hidden from view. Very nice people that leave you alone to explore at your will. Went to Lost Maples Park and hiked the east trail. A must if you stay at this property. It is a somewhat tough trail, but well worth the views once you reach the highest points. Two other parks are also near, Natural State and Garner. I would recommend to anyone thinking about this property. You can also have a good time eating and shopping in Bandera. Dough Joe’s has fantastic pizza and the Old Forge has great homestyle food. The Cracked Mug is great for breakfast and Coffee. The best thing about Bandera is that no one cares about wearing a mask.
Great place to get away and still be "socially distanced ". We needed different scenery than our home view and this was perfect. So quiet and peaceful. Wonderful fenced yard for our dog to run around. Excellent location to drive to area parks. Nice to have a good restaurant nearby as well.
The house was comfortable and spacious.
Cute, cozy home away from home! The property is beautiful and full of hiking trails plus a creek for those looking to get away from the city to connect with nature. So peaceful, quiet and relaxing - we loved it so much we added another day! We drove from Houston to get here, and it was well worth it. The days were filled with birdsong and the nights were filled with stars. Wonderful stay, highly recommend!
Great spot for a secluded hill country getaway with the dogs
We had a wonderful time at Kingfisher ranch. My wife and I went with two dogs for most of the week, and had two friends from Dallas join us for the weekend. The location was exactly what we wanted - secluded, away from people and highways, with lots of trails to explore, memorable picnicking spots all over, a scenic (muddy) creek for the dogs to splash around in (and capability to hose them down afterwards), lovely deck area with an excellent grill, fully equipped kitchen for cooking out, and much more. Worth mentioning also that Hill Country State Natural Area is just 20 minutes away and has rugged and dramatic hiking; and there is an access point to the clean, shallow and wade-able Medina at the top of the road to Bandera, which are both extremely convenient from this property. Loved it and already planning our next trip back!
This was a really nice place to get away for a few days. Loved watching the birds from the deck, and the view from The Perch was amazing. I brought my telescope for some star gazing and I was NOT disappointed!!
Watching the hummingbirds and other wildlife each morning while drinking our Morning coffee was peaceful, taking hikes on the trails up the hills and along the creek was wonderful . The location is close to towns for supplies and also river tubing enjoyment. A wonderful get away. Thanks again
We needed to get out of town to rest, reset and recharge. This location met all of our needs. There was ample room for our family of four and extremely dog friendly. The dog bowls full of water on arrival were a nice touch! We put our own blankets on the furniture and the provided dog bed in the master to make our pup feel more at home. She loved exploring the area on our morning walks with her and meeting the rabbits and deer in the area. I fell in love with the hummingbirds off the porch and was happy to greet the owner who came by to tend the feeders one afternoon. It was not an intrusion at all, and she understood that our dog’s protective response was not aggressive. Being a getaway during COVID, I was concerned about running out of essentials but that was not the case at all. All new soaps, sponges and plenty of paper products were provided. WiFi was enough for streaming from our Fire Stick and a Zoom meeting and webinar were great on the WiFi. No Verizon cell service is available, mentioned only as an FYI, not a concern. I went there to get away and got what I wanted. Our family played games, watched movies and visited Garner State Park and Hill Country State Natural Area for day hikes. Lost Maples was close as well but we prioritized the parks we’ve never visited. Dinner at Mac and Ernies did not disappoint. We would return again to this delightful property!
We had a great stay. Lots of wildlife. The owners take pride in this rental. It was very clean and well supplied. There’s a private and very clean swimming hole in the back of the house. It was great having it all to ourselves. Wouldn’t think twice about renting again.
We were pleased with our stay at Kingfisher ranch. The creek itself was lovely and enjoyed how isolated it was. It had various depths which kept our boys busy exploring and playing. The house was comfortable and kid-friendly. We enjoyed the location as well for visiting Bandara, hiking the nature preserve and exploring other nearby small towns. The owners were quite receptive if we had any needs or questions and our boys enjoyed all they had to share about the animals on their property.
The house was at a good location. Plenty of open area. Outdoors chairs needed some cleaning. Kitchen cabinets also needed done cleaning; some of the spices wheee te expired and needed to be thrown away. Others than that very comfortable and relaxing.
Love the location, really enjoyed walking the creek bed, walking up to the gazebo, and spending time out on the back porch in the shade watching the hummingbirds. Short drive to the Medina River or into Bandera. Perfect fenced in yard for the dogs.
