My husband was hospitalized a few days before our trip. I understand the cancellation policy and that I would not be entitled to any refund, but the owner refused to transfer our trip dates so we could have a trip later. Communicating with the owner was as useless as it was heartless. All conversations were different phrasings of, I can't do anything per the cancellation policy, but if I was to cancel, I could give you a discount on the days you wanted to transfer to for a later stay.
I tried calling and emailing VRBO support, to which he responded that it would be an inconvenience to him and would be out of money if I were to change dates since there was no certainty that someone would book our original dates on short notice. At no point during these exchanges did I try to request a refund, just a simple change of date for my paid-in-full booking.
Someone, please tell me why he asked me to cancel my trip, so it would free up this property, which is one of many I might add, and pay again at a "discount" instead of simply transferring my dates, which would reopen the listing for someone to book.
Honestly, I feel taken advantage of in this situation. I didn't plan on my husband's hospitalization before our trip, and at the time of this review, he still has shown no improvement. I now am out a significant among of money for nothing, no change of dates, no refund, no compassion.
Zero willingness from the host to work out anything that didn't line his pockets.
