Refugio Lodge- I can say it’s a hidden gem! Opened just about two months ago by four wonderful owners, this charming bed & breakfast exceeded all my expectations.
Initially, I was concerned about the noise from the nightclub behind the property, as mentioned in other reviews. However, Augustin, one of the owners, reassured me it wouldn’t be an issue during this time of year. it wasn’t an issue for us at all! For two days before arrival, I chatted with Augustin. He patiently answered all my questions about the area, arranged transportation, and even helped us find a place of worship. From that moment, I knew Refugio had us at “Hello”! The entire staff was beyond wonderful and accommodating. They all made the stay unforgettable. Pablo makes a fantastic cup of coffee—piping hot, crafted with care, and brimming with love! Breakfast each morning was a delicious, traditional Costa Rican spread that kept us full through lunchtime. The property is small, but it’s nestled in a lush tropical setting. It’s a block from the beach and walking distance of everything happening in Tamarindo. The market and bank are just across the street, and restaurants are only minutes away. Evenings often featured a relaxed gathering of friendly visitors and locals in the bar area, with live nice music some nights. Refugio Lodge truly felt like home away from home.
