The main living area is open plan. This delightful room has high vaulted ceilings and a lovely welcoming wood burner. The cottage is decorated and furnished to a very good standard, with pretty cottage furniture, rugs and soft furnishings from a woollen mill renowned for its high quality furnishings and tartans. There are two bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed and the other with twin beds. Both are very attractively furnished throughout. The bathroom is surprisingly spacious, with a bath and a separate walk-in shower.
The gardens across from the cottage are a real delight. Steps lead down to a lawn, with a pretty summer house, complete with furniture. It provides an ideal spot to sit and enjoy the lovely views. Adjoining this is a separate patio with picnic table and chairs.
The cottage is just a few yards from the beach and harbour. Portmahomack has a pier where a variety of small local craft come and go. The village is set around the pretty horseshoe-shaped beach with a good selection of amenities including restaurants, a pub, a café and a well-stocked local store and post office. It also has a golf club open to visitors. There are wonderful walks direct from the cottage and numerous places of interest within easy reach. A trip out to the local lighthouse is a must, with the opportunity to spot seals and dolphins along the coastline. The area is also known for its archaeological sites and at the nearby Tarbat Discovery Centre there is a fascinating display of Pictish, Norse and Medieval artefacts. The nearby town of Tain, just 10 minutes’ drive away, provides further facilities. Built using local mellow sandstone it is an attractive historic town and offers an excellent selection of shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs, as well larger supermarkets.
