This converted photographic studio is the perfect bolt-hole for a couple wishing for a quiet get-away, yet close to town amenities. Decorated in sophisticated mid-century style, the light and airy open-plan living area is perfect for relaxing, with flat-screen Tv, Bose sound system, High-speed internet and space for working on a laptop. A wood-burning stove and electric heating will keep you cosy on those chilly autumn evenings. The well-equipped kitchen and dining area is perfect for cooking up a storm and dining 'a deux'. We supply complimentary tea, coffee and a range of condiments. The floor-to-ceiling window has views over the garden and beyond to Tain's medieval centre.
The Studio at Croft Roy is fully detached with its own entrance. It is set in the grounds of the owners' 200 year old croft house. The cottage garden (shared with the owners) has outdoor seating/dining, garden games and a barbecue which you are welcome to use. There is off-street parking right outside the door.
The apartment is set in a quiet part of Tain's conservation area, but only a few minutes' walk from the High Street, galleries, popular restaurants such as Green's and Platform 1864 and grocery stores. The train station is nearby with direct services to Inverness. Tain Golf Course is within walking distance and there are lovely walks down to the shore and around the local farm and woodland.
Tain is a great base for exploring Easter Ross and the wider Northern Highlands. There are beautiful, quiet sandy beaches within a few minutes' drive, including Dornoch, Portmahomack and Shandwick. Golf is well represented, with Royal Dornoch only 10 minutes away and plenty of other choices including Tain (an old Tom Morris course), Portmahomack, Golspie, Brora and the Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle.
Situated on the North Coast 500, Tain is easy to reach from Inverness Airport in around 45 minutes (we offer airport pick-up / drop-off at additional charge). Being on the East Coast, our weather is relatively dry and mostly midge-free! Easter Ross is a land of big skies, sweeping coastlines and lonely estuaries full of the sound of migrating birds in Spring and Autumn. Darkness doesn't fall until well after 10.00pm in summer, but come during the cooler months and you have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights. The dramatic scenery of the west and north coasts is about 90 minutes away.
The Studio at Croft Roy is co-owned by a professional landscape photographer, whose work is on display in the studio. Why not combine your trip with a short photography workshop? I'll take you to some of my favourite locations and help you capture some memorable images of the area, whether you are a casual shooter or experienced enthusiast. Day and evening tours can be arranged.
In summary, the Studio at Croft Roy is perfect for lovers of the outdoors who also like to relax in comfort. Its quiet but central location makes it ideal as a jumping-off point for the wider area, with plenty to keep you busy locally as well. Golf, walking, fishing and endless photography opportunities are on the doorstep, with a cosy, stylish place to retreat to when the day is done.
