We had a great experience at Hotel View Sydney, and a big part of that was thanks to Sajid, who was on the night shift during our stay. Over the last three days, he was always helpful, polite, and quick to assist whenever we needed anything. His professionalism and friendly attitude made a difference in our stay. I had very bad encounters with the front desk night shift manager. The hotel has a policy that when guests want to use the gym, they need to come to the front desk to get the gym key. I was given a nonactivated key the first time. So I went back to get an activated one. The night shift manager was the one who gave me the new key which worked only for one time or one day. I questioned why there was such a policy since there was a webcam in the gym for the hotel to monitor the number of people using it. The night shift manager said to me it was there and I quoted "to prevent your guys to k each others". I was taken aback but said nothing. The next day I went to the front desk again to get a new key. The other front desk lady told me she could activate the key for 4 days usage & she did. After 4 days I went back to front desk to get a new gym key for the rest of my stay which was 3 more days. The same night shift manager came out to help since the trainee could not activate it. I jokingly said he could do better since I got a pass for 4 days before and he got mad. He said it was insulting. I immediately said I am sorry and said it was a joke. He then basically threw the key to my hand & walked away. The key dropped on the lower side of the counter which I could not reach. The trainee looked stunned. He picked up the gym key & handed to me. He did all these in front of the trainee. He was hostile to me more than once & blamed me.

The breakfast was well worth the extra money. The reception staff was very helpful. We chose not to have our room cleaned but asked for clean towels. They did not bring them until our third request. The electricity in our friends' room didn't work. It was not turned on until late in the day, after it had been requested early in the morning. Evidently it only took a flip of a switch in the control room. We wish we had not been awakened in the middle of the night by a fire alarm, reportedly caused by a faulty fuse in the alarm system.

The view was pretty much the only good thing about this hotel. It was great for watching the NYE fireworks, but we had to suffer through the following: 1. On arrival, there was no accessible entry into the hotel and luggage had to be carried up flights of stairs through the back entrance. The reception was completely unapologetic about this 2. Room service was shoddy,happening only when the sign was hung outside the door and even when they did come by, garbage was not thrown/utensils not washed or replaced/amenities not replenished/surfaces left unclean 3. We had four keycards for two rooms, all of which stopped working at some point or the other over a 4 night stay. Any time these had to be replaced, both the room keycards had to be replaced at the same time - again with no apology from staff 4. On the final night, the fire alarm went off at 1:30 am. The evacuation was unclear, the reception staff could not answer if we needed to bring our aged parents down the stairs or not and kind of just shrugged it off, the few of us who had evacuated were told ''everything is fine'' some time later with no explanation, and no apology made for the whole experience 5. On checkout, we were informed by reception that the account was settled. A few days later, we were charged on the credit card on file - which is fine if there were any pending charges, but we received no notification or invoice for said charges from the hotel, but simply charged without explanation Would not recommend.

I chose this property for the view which was fabulous. The staff was also very helpful, the bedding comfortable and the walk over the bridge (approximately.66 miles each way) great exercise. You can also take the train which we never did and twice took taxis. The breakfast and restaurant were disappointing. A fabulous view with a mediocre buffet in the morning and no atmosphere at night. With this view, this restaurant should be one of the best in Sydney but isn’t. Plan on eating in the city but I would recommend staying there
