We spent an idyllic week at the Sprat & Winkle. The carriage has been extremely well converted & the little extras like bread butter & jam were very welcome. The owners were friendly & helpful. Good food was available at the local pub within short walking distance. We will return. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Lovely place
A relaxing stay in a unique location a beautiful area. The owner, Tony, was very welcoming & gave good advice for places to eat. The train was lovely; very well equipped and nicely converted. I was disappointed however to find that communications with the owners were not passed on by HomeAway even though this was how I was told to communicate with them. Fortunately it didn’t matter too much, but it might have done in different circumstances. The only negative comment I could mention is that the railway carriage is not as private as we thought and there were restrictions as to where we could go. For example the station platform area in front of the main house was out of bounds. Also there is another little cottage on the platform that was occupied and restricted our use of that area too. As it happened the residents were discreet & friendly, but still, this isn’t mentioned in the description. Overall I would highly recommend this delightful one-of-a-kind accommodation.

Excellent accommodation and location; very quiet and relaxing with immediate access to footpaths and cycle paths to local pubs, village and national trust properties. Nearby Stockbridge is a lovely town with butcher, deli, pubs, cafes, and shops (note that on Mondays most shops are closed). The train carriage is very nicely furnished and well equipped. Heating and air conditioning were a real bonus and parking on site was very convenient. The gardens were beautiful and peaceful, we loved the tranquil days, and dark skies for star gazing at night. Our hosts were very welcoming and we enjoyed the swing, table tennis and BBQ - nothing was too much trouble, thank you Val for making us feel so welcome. We loved this.
We loved this. We came for christmas, just to get away, with our kids and our dog. The carriage is really lovely, beautifully done inside and with fantastic bedrooms and bathrooms. Our slight fears that it might be bit cold (it IS a railway carriage after all) were completely wrong, there's super efficient heating and hot water. The setting is really beautiful and maintained incredibly well. Went on some long walks along a multitude of footpaths and enjoyed discovering the local towns and landscape. Really, a lovely place.

Lovely setting in a fantastic location, the carriage was well fitted out with high quality equipment throughout With such a rural location you have to go a little way to find any shops etc but that was a minor inconvenience Stockbridge is a delightful place to visit and shop/eat
