The very mixed reviews of this place concerned us but in an expensive town, it was a reasonably-priced option in a decent location. People who want a smart room can find plenty of options at twice the price. The room was tired, the shower didn't work (but the bath was fine), there were 3-4 flights of narrow stairs to carry our suitcases up and down, but the room was clean and the owner was very friendly and helpful (even carried our cases up for us), once he showed up. It was a bit annoying to have to phone him and wait outside 10 minutes for him to arrive. We had driven for almost 3 hours and I was desperate for the loo. But at least it wasn't raining.
We didn't eat there, but the fixed-price menu looked very reasonable at £30 for three courses. Overall, considering the price, it offered a decent location within easy walking distance of the centre of Stamford and free parking adjacent the property. You pays your money and makes your choice.
