A very pleasant stay - stayed for a couple of nights whilst working in the area. All staff were very pleasant. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The hotel is in a very quiet area with lots of scenic countryside around to see.
Just be aware that the rooms are on the 3rd floor and there are only stairs for access, but that is to be expected with a listed building.
Check in was at the bar, in fact it was basically rooms above a bar and restaurant. Given the age of the building interior being modern was also dissapointing. However the room was nice, staff hit and miss and all very clean.

Disliked: Staff & service
Not as we expected
This is not really a hotel but a function/conference building with rooms, all of which are up three steep flights of stairs and there are no lifts. Check-in was at the end of the very noisy bar, which was rather off-putting. The room was OK but very noisy, particularly from the plumbing - when someone in another room ran a shower it sounded like there was a tractor in our room. Breakfast was just about OK (but they charge extra for hot food). Dinner was very busy, with very slow service. The food was OK but not really as described on the menu. We were surprised how popular the restaurant was.
If you're looking for a country house hotel this isn't it!

Lovely old building with good parking. Rooms full of character
Absolutely every member of staff that we met were extremely friendly and helpful, making the stay very accommodating and special. The room was very clean and spacious with fabulous extras such as the tea and coffee in a picnic basket. The food was top class with a lovely place to sit and have an after meal drink. The grounds are stunning and the building amazing. What a great hotel.
First thing is the location. All the photos are taken in such a way as to suggest gardens and grounds as is the description. What is does not tell you is that it is right on a busy main road and with no double glazing the bedrooms are noisy.
Secondly all the bedrooms are on the top floor and with no lift this is up several flights of stairs. Anyone with any mobility issues will struggle.
Lastly we booked including breakfast. When I went to pay the bill I was charged for the hot food. Even the manager agreed it was not easy to find that it was only for a continental breakfast. He actually said he has asked Expedia to make this more obvious.
Overall pretty disappointed.
Lovely place to stay , fantastic food and staff very professional, however we had a few minor issues that would of made it perfect , firstly we stayed in the Weston suite for one night , beautiful four poster bed , very large room in keeping with the building , some small issues which did not stop us having a relaxing stay but should be addressed .......
1 , bathroom door did not shut too
2 bathroom wall light coming away from the wall
3 shower on and off button missing
4 bathroom window latch had a silver wood screw holding it together .
5 saucers did not match
6 dressing table stool had 4 very loose legs ( my husband tightened it up by hand . )
7 old stale water in iron .
Also we would of expected a English breakfast to be a small EXTRA charge and not £12 ! Seems very expensive considering the price of the room .
Excellent spacious rooms but poor soundproofing (showers, toilets, telephones all clearly heard) and 51 steps up to the bedroom level and no lift. Otherwise a classy but unpretentious small hotel with very nice staff.

Disliked: Room comfort
A lovely house and location but noisey
Noisy and all accommodation is on the top floor with no lift. Dining room needs drapes or tapestries to reduce the people noise
Saniflo system very noisy..
This hotel has some great attributes but some downsides. It seems like it is set out for small weddings more than guests staying. The restaurant and bar are incredibly good, the food excellent, the rooms are very clean and comfortable and there are nice touches like leaving brownies for you to sample. However, the walls are very thin and the plumbing is very noisy. No problems if you have quiet people in the neighbouring rooms. On one night (out of three) I certainly did not! There are also no grounds to speak of and it’s quite near a busy road. It’s a good thing the bar/restaurant is good because there is nothing else around, apart from the sister pub. The staff were wonderful and did everything they could to make the stay a success! So, mixed but overall would stay there again.
The plumbing is very noisy and the walls are paper thin. The place is very clean though and the staff are wonderful. There isn’t anything nearby or grounds to speak of, but the bar and restaurant are excellent. No doubt anyone would have a good stay as long as they don’t have noisy neighbours in the next room!
Room was good although the plumbing was very noisy so you could definitely hear if your neighbor was using the bathroom. Food average and staff weren't as switched on as most places I've stayed. Nice grounds and building though. Kept on thinking it could be a lot better.
