Cliffhanger boasts an elevated position on top of the cliffs in the trendy St Leonards area of Hastings. All the major rooms offer exceptional sea views and the former hotel has been restored and renovated to provide a high standard of luxury accommodation. The house is spotlessly clean and maintained to a high standard.
Six bedrooms (5 ensuite and 1 children's bunk bed room) comfortably sleep 12 / 14 (maximum 12 adults and 2 children) while the ground-floor offers excellent reception rooms, a cosy lounge, a well-equipped kitchen / diner with wood burner, and a sun deck with BBQ, dining area and hot-tub. The best photos of the house are to be found on our own website (Cliffhanger House Hastings).
High-speed internet is available throughout the property and Netflix & all the usual catch-up channels are available in all the bedrooms. A good selection of mixed age toys, games and jigsaw puzzles are supplied in case of rain. High-quality bed linen, REN toiletries, fluffy bathrobes and complimentary slippers are all provided for long, lazy days and maximum lounging. There is free, unrestricted on-street parking near to the house (first-come-first-served) and you can always park in front of our drive to unload (we live next door to the house).
Cliffhanger is a 5 minute walk to the beach. Exit the house in either direction and it's an easy stroll down the hill to the blue flag beaches of West St Leonards and the expansive promenade - ideal for walking, running, scooting or cycling. The Pubs, restaurants, cafes, bakeries, takeaways, convenience stores, art galleries and antique shops of St Leonards are all within easy reach. West St Leonards mainline railway station (offering direct trains to and from London Bridge) is a 5 minute walk away. The cobbled streets and funicular railways of the historic old part of town are a 25 minute walk away. These give access to the Hastings Country Park - essentially an extension to the nearby South Downs – offering cliff-top walks and stunning views all the way to the quaint Medieval village of Rye some 12 miles away. The Blue Reef Aquarium, the Hastings Contemporary art gallery, the fishermen’s museum and the characterful tall black net huts are all situated in the old part of Hastings, not to mention amusement arcades, fish ‘n’ chips, live music, crazy golf and the boating lake. The White Rock Theatre and Hastings Pier are a 15 minute walk away to the East. Head West from the house and the Art Deco De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill is reachable within a couple of hours (walking). We quite often make the walk with our children, have lunch in Bexhill and then get the train back.
The ground floor is the heart of the house. The fully-fitted kitchen is well-equipped with 2 double ovens, 2 fridges (1 large upright and 1 large drinks fridge), large freezer, induction hob and SAGE bean-to-cup coffee machine. The kitchen opens onto the wide and expansive sun deck with plenty of outdoor furniture. There's a hot tub on the deck to keep the kids (and adults) entertained. The dining room seats 15 at a squeeze and the wood burner & art work make for a cosy, atmospheric room for large family dinners.
As a holiday house, the former hotel promises a special experience for everyone. The views are expansive and during the winter months, the deep orange skies of sunrise and sunset can be enjoyed from the house and hot tub. Family get-togethers, friends' reunions, noteworthy occasions, wedding anniversaries and big birthdays are all well catered for here. The all-ensuite bedrooms (*excluding the bunk bed room) offer space and privacy when needed while the open-plan reception areas allow for everyone to come together for evening cocktails, fabulous meals, and late-night film viewings.
The natural beauty of the local environs combined with the fact that there always seems to be something going on means your stay here is likely to be a rewarding one. Whether it’s playing in rock pools, listening to live music in local pubs, or booking a pamper afternoon at the house followed by a private chef, Cliffhanger is a brilliant base from which to just sit and enjoy the view, or head out and explore the rich diversity and history of 1066 country. It’s a superb coastal holiday home for families and groups of friends.
