The Elms is situated in a superb location with the coast path lying just beyond the grounds at the bottom of the garden, which means guests can easily explore the beautiful surrounding scenery on foot with walks to the stunning dog friendly Porthkidney Sands (less than one kilometre away), Carbis Bay and St Ives. The famous Hayle estuary bird reserve can be accessed 200m from the Elms over the public footbridge at Lelant Station, a great place to spot rare migrating birds.
Lelant itself is an attractive traditional village nestling adjacent to the Hayle estuary and is within easy reach of the area's most popular beaches and towns including Carbis Bay, St Ives, Hayle and Gwithian. There's an upmarket atmosphere to its pretty streets, with a handful of terrific eateries including the must-visit Scarlet Wines and Old Forge restaurant just a short walk away. The award winning Ugly Butterfly by Adam Handling located in Carbis Bay Hotel is a spectacular setting for a special occasion and coastal restaurant experience.
The St Erth train stops at Lelant Station just 200m from the front door which is a stunning trip along the coastline to get to St Ives and Carbis Bay if you fancy a change from driving. The well-reputed West Cornwall Golf Club, the oldest course in Cornwall founded in 1889, is three-minutes' drive or a ten-minute stroll up the road for those who enjoy 18 holes with a view. Visitors are very welcome all year round.
Some of the best surfing in Cornwall can be found fifteen minutes' drive across the Hayle Estuary at the beautiful National Trust beaches of Gwithian and Godrevy where the Gwithian Academy of Surfing is located. There are also Surf Schools and water sports at the Ocean Sports Centre at nearby Carbis Bay beach.
