ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH was recently named the seventh top Beach Town by readers of Southern Living Magazine joining its neighbor, the Historic City of St. Augustine (founded in 1565), which was voted by Southern Living Magazine readers in 2023 as their favorite small town.
It all adds up to a great family vacation!
Visitors can enjoy both top picks.
Traveling between the white sands of St. Augustine Beach which is located on Anastasia Island (a 14-mile barrier island) and the City of St. Augustine, is just a short scenic drive over the Bridge of Lions across the Matanzas Inlet.
Here at St. Augustine Beach & Tennis Club Condominium, visitors enjoy our white sandy beaches—just steps away from your door--and also explore the historic offerings of the City St. Augustine. Access the beach in a matter of minutes over our new boardwalk which begins just beyond the pool area and crosses over the protected dunes to the beaches. (Use of the boardwalk is free to our renters. Access requires a gate code which is provided.)
For a bit of background and our “historic” information-- St. Augustine Beach and Tennis Club Condominium is one of the first “high rise” condos built on this island area. It is a 4-story complex, approved by the State of Florida in 1976 and completed in 1979. Through the years the building and grounds have been inspected annually and well maintained by its owners/board of directors as required by state law (and common sense). Updating our building to comply with Florida’s new “Milestone” inspection requirement is in the final stages.

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH has consistently been ranked in the top ten of best beaches in the United States. While you can find plenty of information on the history of the City of St. Augustine, here's some history about St. Augustine Beach and Anastasia Island:
Until the mid-18th century, the St. Augustine Beach area was used as pasture land for cattle and quarries for coquina. In 1730, Jesse Fish, a businessman from New York, claimed the coastal land south of the lighthouse and established the local citrus industry. The Fish family cultivated this land from 1730 to 1820's. In the 1880's,
St. Augustine Beach was called South Beach. The transportation from St. Augustine (the city) was provided via the South Beach Railroad. This train brought tourists to see the alligator farm, quarries, and lighthouse and to relax along the beaches. In 1920 the first hotels in St. Augustine Beach brought tourists who enjoyed this pastoral escape from formal St. Augustine. There were no paved roads. The only way to travel was over the dunes or to drive on the beach. The history of St. Augustine Beach is closely tied to the history of early exploration in North America. The settlements of the French, British and Spanish explorers in this area played an important role in the rich history of Florida and the United States.
BUT COME SEE FOR YOURSELF--Enjoy our beautiful family friendly beaches and then explore the historic sights of St. Augustine as well as the relaxing offerings of Anastasia Island. Visit the Lighthouse, Marineland, Anastasia State Park and other historic island sports.
Enjoy the beach—and your visit!
