We drove up from Orange County for the weekend for a much needed unplug from our usual routine. Our family of four plus two dogs felt right at home at this cozy cabin. It had everything we needed, plenty of kitchen cooking/dishes/and extras, as well as comfortable towels sheets and blankets. The cozy wood stove heated the whole house quickly and easily, we brought a few of our own, but Splitrock also had fun board and card games to play. The neighborhood of Ponderosa is quite and secluded making the evenings cooking and looking up at the expansive night sky extremely enjoyable. Drinking coffee on the deck listening to the creek flow through the back yard was my favorite part. The ponderosa lodge burnt down in March so there aren’t any restaurants nearby. Both roads to get there right now (Nov 2023) are “closed” from recent mudslides, but the construction crew will let you through one lane if you let them know you’re headed up to ponderosa. I’m sure this will improve with time. Make sure you have a full tank of gas and all the groceries you need before heading up the hill because it’s a long winding road back down.
We really loved staying at this cabin and can’t wait to return to enjoy more hiking and exploring in the summer. Thanks for hosting us!!!
