We had a great time at Podere San Guisto. Our 4 days there (with our 3 children, ages 18,16 and 11) were sandwiched between Rome and then Firenze and Venezia and afforded us a great opportunity to relax a bit and experience Tuscany.
Fabio and Urszula are very gracious hosts. They bought us some items for breakfast as we were arriving via car from Rome (about 2.5 hours via the Autostrada) on a Sunday afternoon when most area markets were closed.
They provide you with privacy but are always available should you have questions or need recommendations. In fact, Fabio showed us the way to a local restaurant one night for dinner and also walked with us one morning in Siena while sharing his knowledge of history which was very interesting. We also enjoyed a bottle of their wine and appreciated the bruschetta they provided one afternoon by the pool. One day, we just decided to kick back and stay at the pool and it was a great time. They have a very nice, clean, pool the kids (and parents) loved.
The rooms were nice and clean - just as they appear on the website photos and there was plenty of room for the 5 of us. The washing machine came in handy as we were in the middle of our vacation and appreciated being able to do one (or several) loads.
Looking out the kitchen window in the morning provided a quintessential tuscan countryside view. We were very cool and comfortable in the evening with the large windows affording an incredible view of a star-filled sky.
It was also a great location from which to explore Montalcino (about an hour, picturesque, drive away) and other Tuscan hill towns.
Before we left, another highlight was being able to look through a book Fabio had of his Marzini family history, that dated back well into the 1800s. It reminded me of photos of my grandparent's upbringing in Calabria, and since Fabio's English is a lot better than my Italian, we were able to communicate well and I learned a lot about his farm and the history of the area.
Net net, would highly recommend as our stay was one of the highlights of our trip.
