Rustic Retreat Cabin for Families/Sm Groups, "Shalom"

This little one-room cabin is ADORABLE! It has everything you need (and nothing you don't) for a quiet getaway to fill your soul. We're located just 30 minutes outside Duluth, MN, but when you're here you'll feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. While you're here you'll have access to our enormous sandy beach on Lake Superior. The beach is a 15-minute walk from the cabin, and is absolutely stunning.

Here are a few things you'll want to know before you book this cabin:
- The cabin is clean, comfortable, and elegant, but still quite rustic. The cabin is available year-round, with a propane fireplace for your main source of heat. It has electricity, but no running water. In the kitchenette is a water dispenser for washing & drinking. Adjacent to the cabin is your own private low-odor outhouse that has a little heater and a light you can turn on from inside the cabin. Just a one-minute walk from the cabin is the main lodge, which has public restrooms for showers and flushing toilets.
- There is no drive-in access to this cabin. You can unload your vehicle about a one or two-minute walk from the cabin. We offer hand carts and/or utility sleds for bringing luggage to the cabin. After you've unloaded your vehicle, we'll ask you to park your car back in the parking lot along the side of the road.

I wanted a trip to escape with my kiddos and be in nature!! This was exactly that. We enjoyed every minute and the best part was we were left alone. There was enough dishes for a family of 4. Theres a microwave, small toaster oven (I thought I could make puzza and you have to 4th the pizza to do so), there's a grilling grate, so we brought tin foil for burgers; super good. The trails were a bit muddy but to be expected in spring in WI/MN. We walked a 20 minute walk down to superior and each of the kids got to brush up on their fire starting skills right on the beach with the drift wood. Super fun and enjoyable. We stayed 4 days, 3 nights. Highly recommend uf you want to go off grid a bit. We will be back.

My dog and I stayed here for two nights. The rustic cabin had a very comfortable bed and I had everything that I needed. Located close to the area I wanted to explore. We walked to Lake Superior from the cabin.

Great getaway

Staying at Amnicon allowed my kids to have a taste of camping but still able to sleep in a bed. We used the cabin as a base and did day trips around the north shore. The camp was quiet and clean. We had a great trip.

Kitchen Details

Kitchen is poorly supplied with utensils. We arrived and found a few knives, no spoons, 3 forks. Also no mixing bowls. 4 plates, 4 bowls for a cabin that has bed space for 7 people. All else was very nice. Glad to be there!

nice rustic cabin

We enjoyed our stay in this rustic cabin. There was plenty of space for all 5 of us and it was clean. The camp is nice and quiet. It's located at the end of a long dirt road, which we did not know, but it worked out.

Great, affordable stay, able to disconnect while also visiting sites.

This worked perfect for our family and our stay, especially with our hound along for the ride. We’d like to return in the summer months to better be able to explore the trails. The one difficulty was the lack of heater in the cabin necessitating use of space heaters. While the cabin remained warm enough I was under the impression there was more centralized heating. Other than that we had no issues and really enjoyed our stay!

Just what we needed

It was a cozy and peaceful stay once we got the heat situation figured out. The contact person was super attentive and took care of what we needed. It was rustic but with nice amenities. Whoever thought to put a heater in the outhouse that you could turn on from inside is genius! It was so nice having the sauna available too. The walking trails were nice. And we appreciate being able to have our dog with us.

Comfortable and Family Friendly

We wanted space close to Duluth and the North Shore but also wanted to rent a cabin. This location gave us all of that along with its own amenities - beach on Lake Superior, some new hiking trails and proximity to Duluth and all of its attractions. Also, very affordable, clean and just as described.

Quiet and restful, girls getaway

We had a great stay! The staff was kind and welcoming. The cottage is cozy and has everything you need for an overnight or three stay. Use of the lodge bathroom was helpful for showers, etc. I loved having the drinking water in the cabin to refill water bottles. Only minor challenge is there is a bit of a walk to this cabin from the parking area. I'm recovering from heel surgery and I did not see information about the distance in the VRBO listing, but the director said it was listed on their website. Walked slow and watched my steps on the gravel path to the door. There were plenty of lights, including a motion sensor on the path halfway to the cabin, and a light switch inside the cottage to the outhouse heater and light! The staff has made thoughtful additions to make the stay comfortable. We made it work! We had a great time and were very relaxed during our two night stay.

Friendly and helpful staff! So nice to fall asleep in a clean cabin with a comfortable bed, listening to bird song and feeling a gentle cool breeze. Smooth trail to a sandy beach on the lakeshore.

We loved the cabin, the location and the access to the beautiful Lake beach. We found the " kitchen" area challenging to use and make a meal and clean up. Wish the counter space was a bit bigger and water to wash dishes available for us to pump and use.

Peaceful Getaway

Our stay was amazing! Hannah did a great job communicating with us before we arrived, and the staff there was friendly and did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The property was super cute, the cabin was warm and cozy, and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We had a good time exploring the area and taking a trail to Lake Superior to skip rocks. Plus the property was SUPER close to Amnicon Falls, and the Duluth area. We will definitely visit again in the future 😊

Outhouse extraordinaire

Not sure what to expect when we booked this property. Was exactly as stated. Granddaughter saw the picture of our "private" outhouse and said "Hate it!" Grew to appreciate the adventure. Clean, rustic, quiet. Close enough to our weekend activities in Duluth and enough on site nature to satisfy all our party.
