Nestling in the foothills of Exmoor National Park on a working farm, The Farmhouse (UKC1339) and Bridge House (UKC1340) are two thoughtfully converted houses in this wonderful part of Devon, keeping authentic structure with internal steps and multi surfaces contributing to its charm. Combe View (ref UKC3157) is a stunning first-floor apartment-style accommodation. Thoughtfully converted using timber from the surrounding forest, this really is somewhere a little bit special. All properties offer guests a comfortable base ideal for families or small groups, and a welcome pack is waiting for you on arrival with a homemade cake, bread, butter, jam, tea, coffee, sugar and milk.
A private sitting-out area awaits alongside large, well-maintained gardens with countryside views. Walks can be had from the farm up onto Exmoor (a designated International Dark Sky Reserve), taking you through woods, along valleys, by rivers and past lakes. A variety of wildlife can be seen, from wild red deer to kingfishers. Fishing on the lakes is available in the fishing season, and on the estate, there are two spring-fed lakes; populated with wild brown trout. Access is by foot or by 4x4 vehicle as they are both located along farm tracks unsuitable for cars.
The village of North Molton, a short drive away, has a good local shop and pub. The larger town of South Molton has a wider range of shops and local amenities.
Withypool and the ancient Tarr Steps are both highlights on the moor. Climb to Exmoor’s highest point at Dunkery Beacon, then pop into the Dulverton for an afternoon cream tea. In Lynton and Lynmouth there is plenty to see and do, with the two towns being connected by the funicular cliff railway, or visit the Valley of the Rocks, with access to the Southwest Coast Path.
Head up to Woolacombe, Putborough and Croyde for a seaside adventure, offering some of the best beaches in the country with surfing and rock pooling. Exmoor Zoo, Combe Martin Wildlife Park and Watermouth Castle all provide an interesting and entertaining day out. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knighthayes.
