Welcome to Forest Lane Cottage!

** PLEASE NOTE - I no longer have access to a laundry service that is able to take care of providing clean towels and linens. Please understand that I would like to provide this service, but I am unable to. Thus, you’ll need to plan on bringing your own. I do apologize for this.

This 3 bedroom cottage began renting in early 2018! Please note that the nightly rate is not based upon how many people stay. Some other properties charge up to $20 more per night per person over 2 guests. I want larger groups to be able to enjoy this location without worrying about paying for additional people who stay!

Please note, I want to make sure people know this is a rustic rural farmhouse. It was built in 1953 and shows its age a bit! There is a door or two that doesn’t close perfectly. The house is in a very wooded area with many trees and is partially shaded. Thus the roof will have some leaves on it and the gutters won’t be perfectly clean. As I listed in the paragraph above - the nightly rate for a cottage that sleeps 9-10 guests for my nightly rate is a bargain. The basement is partially finished so please don’t expect luxury. The pool table is functional but the basement that it’s in is by no means meant as a living space. The bunk beds have metal frames and the flooring in about half the house is not genuine hardwood!

I have tried the best I can to describe this rural farmhouse as not to induce any unrealistic expectations. If you’re looking for 5-star hotel accommodations - you won’t find that here. However, you won’t be paying for 5-star accommodations either.

I have had some recent complaints regarding a few items so please read the following info prior to booking. Your booking this cabin acknowledges that you have read and understand the information contained in this ad.

This RUSTIC cottage is located in a wooded and grassy area. There are bugs and there are spiders and there are other furry critters in the area. The cabin is typically cleaned on a Monday after folks check out. The cleaning service has an hour round trip travel time, so it is likely it won’t be “freshened up” immediately prior to your arrival if you come later in the week. Please expect there to be a sign of activity of these bugs and spiders and other pests in this natural wooded area.

The lawn service might not always be able to mow or trim weeds directly prior to your arrival. Many factors such as rain, wooded property access, and land topology play into this. This is not a metropolitan or town location. If you are expecting that, understand you might be disappointed and won’t receive a refund.

Sometimes, a window might fail to lock. However, all main entry doors are secure and have locks on them. We have never had a security incident since we began cabin rentals in 2012. I have had many, many very happy customers. Many folks come back to each of my locations each and every season. However, a few have not been happy due to the items listed above. Please be sure you understand the above information before choosing to stay here.

The hot tub is on and working! It’s located just off the front porch within feet of the entry door! There is also a pool table in the basement, along with a table and bar stools.

The cottage is located directly between Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave, about 5 miles from each cave.

The property can sleep 9-10 guests, and possibly more if you bring air mattresses.

Pets are welcome. Free DIRECTV in two rooms is included as well as free Wi-Fi.

Jimbo's Bar and Grill is located within walking distance, where you can enjoy live music on the weekends. Jimbo's is well-known for great burgers, sandwiches, a great beer and wine selection, and many large screen TV's!

Get out today to the Hocking Hills!

PLEASE NOTE - this property is located in a rural setting with open grassy areas and woods nearby. We do our best to keep pesky rodents away but at times there could be a rodent that was just caught in a trap. We have tried poison, traps, and using nothing at all; we have landed on continuing to use mousetraps. Poison causes them to die in the most inopportune places and having no traps at all just leads to larger issues. If you happen to find a mouse in a trap we apologize - we truly are doing the best to can to make the pests disappear. Just please be prepared to place all food in sealable containers or in the refrigerator so you don’t attract them even more!

In addition to small furry pests, an occasional wood roach might be wandering around a cabin. I assure you these are NOT a cock roach. Please google “wood roach”. They feed on moist damp wood. They don’t really want to be inside but they might have been carried in on firewood or wandered in looking for a mate. They don’t eat human food and they don’t want to be inside. If you find one, please either dispose of it or simply throw it outside.

And finally, this cottage backs up against a LARGE, STEEP hill and rainwater runs off this hill directly toward the house. That rainwater often seeps through the basement concrete walls and sometimes collects in small areas on the basement floor. We do our best to make sure it is mopped but sometimes it occurs the day of your arrival. Please be patient and understand that this is sometimes unavoidable and you might need to mop/squeegee some rainwater.

Thanks for your patience as you venture in to the rural wooded areas of Hocking Hills!

Great cabin
Great cabin, awesome location. No Verizon cell service FYI. It is not the Hilton or the ritz but it was clean and it had everything we needed for a rustic hiking type of vacation. Hot tub was lovely after long days. Thank you!

Great for families, Quiet, Homey
Great communication from property owner. It was the perfect size for our family. The area is so quiet and serene, which we loved. Certainly, it could use updates, but the price is right compared to others in the area. We have already recommended the place to friends and we will be back!!

Economical and close to everything
We had a great time. Everything was just as described. The kids loved the hot tub and roasting s’mores by the fire. Restaurant and gas station were both close enough to walk to but not too close. Gas station actually had a big selection of items to choose from. We were a little concerned about how close we were to the road at first but it really wasn’t a concern at all. Overall a nice place to stay

No Frills, Great Hot Tub
This is a great place to come if you want a place to wind down after enjoying the natural beauty Hocking Hills State Park. The family room couch is super comfy, and the pool table in the cellar was fun too. The hot tub was awesome as well. Be prepared to bring water to drink, because the tap water isn't really suitable for drinking. All in all, it was just what we needed.

Family vacation 2023
We stayed at this property from July 5th-8th. Location to old man’s cave, ash cave and other hiking trails was perfect. Was a little worried at first because it is located on a very busy highway but it never really was a problem.. Overall a good time, we never used the pool table in the basement, very damp with some water on floor. Probably caused by all the rain. Only other issue was the coffee pot was cracked so we couldn’t use, after looking around we found an extra pot so we were able to have our coffee. We hade a nice relaxing couple days!

Nice Place
The place was nice and big. It was also located close to hocking. The only issue we had was that two of the bedrooms only had bunk beds which the adults that had to use them were not very comfortable. The kids that used the bunk beds didn’t seem to have the same opinion. It is an older home with visible wear but we didn’t have any problems with it. The kitchen was not stocked with everything you need or are use to using but did have enough to accomplish what you need for most meal preparation.

Weekend getaway
Beautiful area to visit. Hot tub is a nice plus and the pool table was a perk we all enjoyed. The grill was good and an extra tank was nearby which was appreciated. Tools were there for grilling which was appreciated. Nothing super fancy here but it is a nice place to stay. The bar Jimbos (food and drink) is a short walk away and is a very nice surprise to be honest. Covid 19 makes it hard on a group of 6. We had to bring blankets, sheets and towels for 6. We had to drive 2 vehicles to get there and bring all our stuff. Not his fault but if you are a large group you need to bring a bunch of items to make it work.

Very Rustic Accommodations
The Keypad lock was very difficult to open. The Downstairs Bedroom window did not lock. Upstairs did not have air conditioning, and only one window had a screen so we could open a window. Accommodations are for 11 people, but table in kitchen only sat 4 people. The prior reviews, however, were all pretty accurate. It was too hot out during our stay to use the hot tub. Porch area was dirty, cigarettes in ashtray, and we also had to scrub down the picnic table to use it. The experience was a little underwhelming.

Does.not contribute to a good vacation
What the owner discloses is minimized. On top of what he discloses, we found a 4"square cut out in a bedroom window blind, no blind on other window, no blind in other bedroom AND bathroom which has neighbors driveway on hill above. Basement had empty beer cans and broken pool sticks as well as water on the floor, no Im not mopping as he suggests. Thick dust about and mold on kitchen and bath cabinets. Opened drawer in kitchen and it had only three sides. I took pics when arrived. Many unfinished details around the house. Lights flicker. Wouldnt surprise me if wires are touching and dangerous. Cigarette butts around porch and grounds. Owner claims he cant clean but on the Monday before. Wrong business then, should not rent out! Very uncomfortable. Owner tends to defend rather than care. Waste of money for my family.

Great location for Hocking Hills sightseeing
The location is very convenient to the Hocking Hills area and we went on several hikes. We especially loved pulling off along the Salt River just 4 miles west of the cabin and hiking and fishing along the creekbed while the water is low right now. Beautiful! We enjoyed spending a lot of time each evening at the fire pit with all of the fall leaves surrounding us. The kitchen had everything we needed. We were able to enjoy a nice night in the hot tub one night which was great for our aching muscles. The owner was very easy to work with, gave clear instructions via email and was accommodating for an early check in which ended up not being needed, but we appreciated this flexibility nonetheless. In order to make this a property that we would add to our list to return to, we would recommend that someone be hired that will do a very thorough cleaning each week. The floors really need to be mopped (our socks were very dirty after only walking around in them for an hour downstairs). The sink in the bathroom only had drips coming out, so something needs to be adjusted there. We didn't call because it was no big deal to use the kitchen sink for the 3 of us, but a larger group will probably need use of the bathroom sink. The hot tub was set to 105 when got there, which is way too hot (we never set ours over 102 at home). We kept trying to lower it to 102 and it worked eventually, but it seemed like it kept trying to go back to 105. Just something to keep your eye on. My husband wanted to make sure you know that there is no lock on the downstairs bedroom window next to the kitchen. Also, just as an FYI, we had terrible sleep while there--however, this was ONLY because we didn't realize until the last day as we were taking the sheets off that someone had flipped the mattress upside down (ie, pillow top was against box springs). We flipped it back over the correct way before we left. This is just an FYI to make sure the cleaning person looks out for this so that it doesn't happen to someone else (it wasn't obvious to us due to the mattresses being enclosed in plastic).

Good location for the sights of Hocking Hills, but disappointing property
Great comms when booking, and we were happy to find something at a value rate last minute. We knew from the photos & reviews & price that the property was basic. We didn’t mind that. But, it was so dirty, the first thing I had to do was clean the bathroom & kitchen thoroughly upon arrival late at night. :( There was plenty of space for our family of six, and the kids enjoyed the pool table & hot-tub & we had space to enjoy playing board games in the evening in the living room. But we had to go out to buy some basics, like a bath mat, door mat, Brillo pads, dish towels, cleaning spray & more dish soap, that I would’ve thought would be supplied. We’ve stayed in many, many VRBO properties, cabins, yurts, & tents at a range of prices. Yes, this is cheap for the area. So I wasn’t expecting fancy in any way. We are ok with ‘roughing it’. And yes, I get that it’s an old house. But it could have been much much cleaner and less smelly and had more household basic supplies. It needs a deep clean. Windows & screens filthy, exterior base of toilet was gross, bath and shower worked fine, but off-putting to see such rusty dirty plug holes & shower head. I wiped down all kitchen cupboards as they were so sticky - and I don’t mind washing dishes. But the dishwasher was disgusting. Yeah, we saw it was broken. But when we opened it and looked inside it was awful. Doesn’t make a good impression in any way. The pots and pans were sticky and I washed everything before we could cook anything. And the outdoor grill! Wow. I don’t know who would ever want to cook food on that. The plus is definitely the location. Very close to the major Hocking Hills sights & gas station & small stores to get supplies/ food. We loved all that and the owner kindly recommended places to visit, which was super helpful as it was our first time in the area. Had wonderful hikes & a gorgeous day beaching and boating on Lake Logan. But we were so over all the grime inside the house, that on our last day we got up super early (departure day ) to get away from the property. Shame, because if you had $$$ to repair this place & do it up, it could be a stunning rental in a prime location. It has a lot of space.

This property worked for us perfectly. We actually spent most of our time outside on the front porch. It was large enough and had plenty of seating. The living space was very spacious. Again with lots of seating. Everyone slept well so I can honestly say beds felt good at days end. The only negative thing I can report is that it is close to a some what busy road ( speed limit is 55mph). But the property is great!

Weekend getaway with family
Arrive during the day! We arrived during the night and we missed this spot several times due to it having a hidden driveway. Outdated but was good for what we needed. Kids loved the hot tub and we loved the firepit! Daniel was very kind and helpful and gave good recommendations on places around the area to explore! Great location to all the caves and waterfalls! Logan is just 20 minutes away for the beach and restaurants! Will stay again next time we visit!
