Our sweeping water views and wooded, secluded setting are unparalleled! Come relax in this charming waterfront home; perfectly located at the end of a quiet dead end lane but also within walking distance of Sister Bay.
Sunny Bluff is the perfect spot to recharge (or even work remotely; our internet is STRONG!) all while enjoying the natural beauty of Door County. As you pull up to our cottage and the sweeping vista comes into view, it will take your breath away!
Spring on the peninsula is fantastic; truly a well-kept secret. The crowds are non-existent but the beauty of nature’s awakening is truly magical. (And if not; bad weather days are super cozy here too!) Enjoy a hike thru the woods then a soak in the hot tub on a foggy day, read in front of the fire, go out for lunch and throw a few frames at Sister Bay Bowl, bake a frozen pie from Sweetie Pie’s or Bea’s, create some art at Hands-On Studio, or take a trolley tour. There’s never a dull day on the peninsula!
Also, yes there ARE still restaurants open in DC, in the shoulder season! Within a 15 min drive you can find a great variety; from fine dining (Chop and Chives) to great bar food (Husby’s and Mink River.) Not to mention great spots for pizza, breakfast and coffee! (Wild Tomato, Al Johnson’s, and Happy Coffee.) Or do you need sushi, then a freshly-brewed beer? We have that too; both in walking distance! (Fat Belly and PeachBarn Brewery.) Also ‘The Pig’ is just across Hwy 42 so groceries are within a 3 min drive as well.
After enjoying the charms of Sister Bay, breathe deep as you stroll home on the stunning waterfront trail behind our house (a 3/4 mile walk from town beach to our front door, via the trail.) Once back at Sunny Bluff, sink into our bubbling HOT TUB with a glass of wine ... our water views at sunset, high on the bluff, are breath-taking! Once night falls, grab your popcorn and cozy up in front of a crackling fire for board games, cards, or movie night … or pop back outside to star gaze from the hot tub … the possibilities are endless.
General layout: this bluff-top home features 3 levels of indoor living as well as an expansive deck area outdoors. Inside, the open-concept main floor offers ample space for your group to gather for lake-view meals, board games, and fireside conversations. However with all beds/baths on the upper and lower levels, members of your group can also enjoy complete privacy if the mood strikes for quiet time, reading or napping!
Main floor: along with stunning water views from the entire north side of the house, the main living area offers hardwood floors, a sectional sofa (new as of Jul '21) in front of the wood-burning fireplace, seating for 6-8 at the dining table, and an antique game table with 2 chairs snuggled up to a bay window. This level also offers a flat screen smart tv, a dvd movie library (children's movies included), and a cupboard full of games/puzzles. Wireless internet and cable tv is also available throughout the house. The adjacent kitchen (newly remodeled as of Mar '21) features all the major/smaller appliances you expect, including a dishwasher, blender, crockpot, waffle-maker, coffee grinder, and hand mixer. Envision enjoying a glass of wine while some of your party cooks while others enjoy the game table, all set to the backdrop of passing boats in summer or a crackling fire in winter.
Upper level: ascend the staircase at the front of the house and you’ll find a large master bedroom with expansive lake and tree-top views, a king-size bed, an easy chair/reading nook, a large closet, and a flat screen smart tv. Next door is a second bedroom (also with amazing lake views), featuring 2 twin beds and an easy chair. Finally, this floor also features a full bath with tub/shower and a lovely forest view. Both upper / lower levels have wall to wall carpeting as well as designer-quality bed linens, pillows, and mattresses. (Another special touch; we have all our bed linens sent out, for professional laundering/pressing.)
Lower level: descend the staircase at the back of the house and you’ll find another charming partial-water-view room, complete with a queen bed, 2 easy chairs, a flat-screen smart tv, and a full en-suite bath with tub and shower. In addition, the sweet alcove adjoining this room features Pottery Barn bunkbeds/bedding, perfect for children or teens. There is also a small unfinished basement room just off the bunk room, with a front-loading washer/dryer that guests are welcome to use.
Outdoor spaces: while inside couldn't be cozier, our outdoor places to gather (or to sneak off to, for a minute of privacy!) abound. The front of the house features a welcoming garden spot with comfortable seating, partial water views and a traditional firepit; a wonderful spot to enjoy that perfectly-toasted marshmallow as the sun sets.
On the back of the house the main deck, accessed from the kitchen, features dining space for 6, a gas grill, and a cozy propane fire table (new in Jul '22.) Here you can enjoy the sounds of nature all around while you curl up with a cozy blanket on our sectional sofa or a lounge chair (Pottery Barn deck furniture was all new in Apr '21.) And last but not least ... our small lower deck features our year-round toasty and bubbling hot tub (new in Aug '22.) All are ideal spots for enjoying your favorite beverage ... #hottubstargazing!
To access our bluff stairs down to the water, take the path around the left (west) side of house. Continue across the small deck and you'll easily find our stairs; at the bottom simply turn right (east) and stroll the charming walking trail which leads into town. As it runs parallel to the water, you’ll enjoy dramatic forest/ soothing lake/ towering bluff views as you meander into Sister Bay (from our stairs it’s approx 3/4 mile to the edge of town.) As the trail ends you'll pop out of woods into the parking lot of Yacht Club condos (next to Waterfront Park / the town beach.) We also have a dock in place in season (May-Sep); our guests are welcome to enjoy it for fishing, swimming, sunbathing, and boat/sunset watching!
