200’ of your own private accessible Lake Superior Shore: Stony Shores Retreat

Looking for privacy? Welcome to Stony Shores Retreat!

Walk down to Lake Superior’s shores on the wide mowed path from the lakeside of the house to the secluded shoreline area. A small lane along the edge of the property allows you to drive down if you prefer. You can even take your canoe/kayak down and launch right from the shore. A large mowed open lawn close to the lakeshore says “come play”; you have the whole 200’ of Lake Superior frontage for your private enjoyment! Adjoining properties are privately owned and the lakeshore is not public property, so please do not trespass on neighbors’ lakeshore. There is a fire-pit and chairs down by The Lake for those special, evening campfires. NOTE: Because of the uneven surface of stones frequently tossed up by the Lake storms, use the close lakeshore “beach” and fire-pit at your own risk. As always, use caution when walking on loose and uneven stone surfaces if venturing off the mowed lawn area.

Build a campfire, have a picnic, pitch a tent, bring and set up your favorite lawn games, hunt for agates, gaze at a trillion stars (who will spot the first shooting star?), catch the meteor showers, watch the full moon rise over the Lake...or just sit contentedly and contemplate the wonders of nature. Life is good. Brilliant sunrises, gentle waves, wildlife visitors, screeching eagles perched high in the shoreline trees, a variety of birds and even calling/dancing loons and white pelicans are all frequent sights. Living On The Big Lake offers something different every day.

And if you can drag yourself away from the close-up lure of Mother Superior there is a house too! A newly remodeled rustic coastal retreat with large floor to ceiling patio doors across the back looking out at Lake Superior. (Please be cautious as these patio doors do open but there is no step or deck adjoining the home at these doors). The home has all hardwood floors, fully equipped open kitchen with island, TWO remodeled bathrooms, three bedrooms, wood burning fireplace, deck and patio. All on over two private wooded acres.

With this kind of unrivaled access to the Lake Superior shore, you may want to spend the entire stay reconnecting with loved ones and nature. But if you do wish to explore the area further, you are close to so much the North Shore has to offer. And speaking of exploring, the owner has an RV which may be parked near the garage and will not be occupied or in use while you are there.

Tettegouche SP - 10 minutes
Temperance River SP - 15 minutes
George Manitou SP - 15 minutes
Silver Bay - 10 minutes- grocery store, liquor store, hardware store, Adventure Park (zip line, climbing), Black Beach, the Northwoods Grill for excellent BBQ and home cooked meals.
Beaver Bay - 15 minutes- ice cream shop, agate shop, liquor store, flea market, Lemon Wolf Cafe for that special dinner or pizza at Cove Crossings, excellent rock picking at the River and a marina.
Finland - 5 minutes- explore the swampy areas on the gravel/dirt forest backroads where the moose hide and the tundra swans can often be seen on the lakes. Enjoy a hearty breakfast or lunch at Our Place or Four Seasons in town.

Can't Beat The Location
The highlight of this property is the location. It's close to so many great places to explore and the lot is beautiful. The view and access to the lake is unbeatable and the grounds are fantastic and well-maintained. We had some housekeeping concerns when we arrived; the property manager responded quickly and was very friendly but would obviously prefer not to start a vacation with any issues.

Incredible location and views
We had a wonderful stay for our first time on the north shore. Everything we wanted to do was an easy drive up or down 61. The property is incredible! Couldn’t ask for a better location. The sunrises over the lake were unbelievable. We had plenty of space for our four kids and us.

Private location. Lots of shoreline with water crashing on the rocks. Very peaceful. The house is a spacious open floor plan with plenty of room. We were delighted to stay at this location.

Amazing property! Beautiful home, and the view of Lake Superior is priceless. The owner immediately responded to a question we had, and she couldn’t have been nicer. We will definitely stay here again.

The cottage was very cute, with amazing views. The views of the lake changed each day and the deck was the perfect place to enjoy it. We saw eagles!

Breath taking view from the house.
The family that was with me were impressed with the location of the house and the ample view. We thought it was a little too cool at night in the house(had a little trouble figuring out how to work the furnace. It's location worked well for us on our golf trip with several decent courses we were able to play.

Nice place on the lake
This place was nice although i agree with previous reviews it needs some maintenance and deep cleaning. However, the home was well stocked, has a huge yard and open space down by the lake, and beautiful shoreline. Communication was great. Our kids loved exploring outside and playing on the shore.

The property was centrally located for what we wanted. Mosquitos and flies were so bad it was hard to enjoy time outside. The place was clean enough but could use the deep clean. We had plenty of paper products. We cooked a few meals at the place. Could use a few more cooking utensils. Bathrooms were clean enough. We had enough hot water forgroup 5 of us.mmostly clean

Beautiful views, lots of room to play
This property is in a beautiful location, seaside decor, and lots of potential. The view of the lake is wonderful and the location allows for day trips to outdoor fun and cute lakeside towns. The rocky beach is perfect for kids to climb and hunt for just the right one to collect. The main area and primary bedroom have especially nice decor and amazing views. Note that there’s no blackout curtains which was fine for us, but you might want to bring your eye mask in the summer if you aren’t an early riser. Good option for larger families who need lots of outdoor room for kids to play. The home needs a good cleaning and a couple days worth of attention to maintenance that would help it achieve its greater potential. There are several things held together by duct tape or otherwise don’t quite work. Most are just small items like handles and the bathroom fan, but the refrigerator stopped working one night. Luckily the owner responded quickly and they had a garage refrigerator they made available. We were able to use that for the last part of our stay. Overall we had a nice visit and enjoyed a week spending time with family on the Superior shore!

Nice getaway
We loved staying here. The host, BJ, was friendly and responsive in communications, and the caretaker was friendly and helpful as well. The tap water has high salinity (presumably from water softening), so just note you'll need to bring or buy drinking water or ice, although the caretaker provided some and we left some behind for the next people as well. We enjoyed using the outdoor firepit and grill when we could. (We had rainy weather and the mosquitoes were ferocious, but that didn't stop us from having a great time.) Terrific space for yard games just down the hill from the house. Thanks!

Great location!
This was our second stay at Stony Shores Retreat. We had a wonderful time and everything was smooth without any problems. We find the location ideal for our forays into the State parks and up to Grand Marais (great for a rainy day excursion). The house was equipped with everything we needed for a lovely stay. Will book again if available on our schedule.

Spectacular view and great location
We stayed here for a couple nights. The view is amazing and it’s easy to spend time just watching the lake. Great beach access, close to the sights. Decorated nicely. However the house needs a deep clean. It did not feel clean. Looks like there hasn’t been a good deep clean for a long time.

Decent stay, mosquitos relentless
Basically good stay, but mosquitos were pretty bad both inside and out. Somehow they found their way in even though windows were closed. Plus not fond of the barn doors on the bathrooms Privacy was questionable…we still managed to enjoy our stay. Saw an amazing rainbow over the lake.

Incredible home and property
The home is spacious, bright, sunny and super clean, with high quality furnishings like comfortable beds, nice linens, plush towels, etc. But the best part is the property - it’s very large and private with lots of space for walking including a wide section of lakeshore. The view of the lake from the home is also impressive and we lost count of how many types of birds we saw. A wonderful spot to immerse yourself in nature.

Long weekend with adult kids
The property was perfect for us. The location was even better than what we thought, the view of the lake was amazing. It was the best stocked VRBO of any we have ever stayed at. Plenty of towels and blankets and the kitchen had everything I would have at home. All three bedrooms were good size and the beds were very comfortable. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet peaceful getaway with family.

Great little house in the perfect location
This house was great for our family of 5 adults. The view was amazing, large windows everywhere to enjoy the view of Lake Superior. We loved the fire pit by the lake for roasting hot dogs and star gazing. The house was equiped with everything we needed. I would definitely return to this house next time we come to the North Shore.
