This is a great hotel stay for anyone visiting the temples of Angkor Wat. We spent two nights at the Sokha Roth hotel - Mr Phrom (the manager) and his staff took the best care of us, the room is comfortable, the gym and pool were good, the hotel is very new - especially for the price $25 a night. Breakfast was a huge buffet of Cambodian and western foods. We at at the hotel restuarant twice, the food was excellent.
The hotel is a $2 tuk-tuk ride into town. Siem Reap, the town is nothing special, Pub Street is the center but very touristy. Suggest you ask for Mr Samorn, our tuk-tuk driver, for $15 we hired for the entire day to drive us around the temple complex and then used him the rest of the visit - just ask at the hotel front desk that you want Mr Samorn - he's great.
Overall I think 3 days or so is all you need in Siem Reap to see the temples - which are spectacular - but also quite similar - I wouldn't do a whole week. The highlight of our trip was also the Cambodian Kick Boxing arena, on Wednesday afternoon for $15 you get ticket to see the kick boxing, which is televised nationally - all the tourists (there were only 8 on the day that we visited) are sat on a stage right in the front rom - the crowd of 500 or Cambodians was great to watch as they cheered and gambled on the fight. A really great afternoon.
