Staff were very friendly, room was immaculate and had everything I needed and the bed was lovely and comfortable. All for a very reasonable price too.

Location was great, for a base. Check in/out was quick and easy, breatfast was superb, although you have to order hot food, and time it well for making your toast. It felt safe as a solo traveller. The heating was so hot in the room, did not need to bring my dressing gown.

The reviews said tired but exhausted would be more accurate. Cobwebs in my room, cobwebs in dining room. Bit of the carpet mystifyingly missing. Rust marks in bath. Breakfast - cheap food. Everything grubby. Huge hotel - historic coaching inn. Staff pleasant but the owners really taking the p**** by charging £90 a night for a single.

Ok. Some rooms are a bit tired and dated but it’s a fantastic historic property right in the heart of town. Goth waitress / receptionist was top notch. ! Hope to see the Adam ballroom next time as currently closed. Big room. Comfy bed. Warm. Very clean. Great breakfast. Great value

Unfortunately there was something like a boiler start up about 5am which woke me up , no bar in the Hotel at the moment but excellent location and very friendly staff.

Was a bit concerned when I found that in the summer immigrants had been staying in the hotel, but it would appear that the beds are new. Rooms have everything you need, beds are comfy and slept really well. One night stay is great.

Great place to stay
Great to see the Lion open again, new carpets and redecoration makes the hotel look fresh and welcoming. Breakfast lovely plenty of choice and available until11am. Staff great as usual looking forward to staying again.
