"The Takinoyu Hotel was superb! It was larger than I thought and very luxurious feeling. We booked one of their more traditional rooms which was very spaceous and the view of the garden was lovely. We didn't have time to visit their baths but they looked very nice. The staff were great also, very friendly and helpful! Overall excellent hotel, would definitely stay here again! "

"This is a larger complex but it felt like a cozy ryokan throughout, especially in the rather large Japanese style room that I had. Staff speak little English but were friendly enough to work around my poor Japanese."

"Staff are very polite and helpful. Best part is the hotel is only 5 mins from JR Yamagata station, very convenient. There is also a bus terminal at the train station with buses to various attractions like Zao onsen etc. Only down part is the pillow was very flat, hence not comfortable to sleep on."
