The Neighborhood:
Josephine's Carriage House is located in Savannah's celebrated Victorian District. It is to the west of Bull Street and is 3.5 blocks from Forysth Park. It is about midway between River Street, to the north, and the so-called Starland Art District, to the south. For some, it will be within walking distance of most attractions, including the Railroad Museum, SCAD art museum, the Design District and Broughton Street shopping. There are restaurants, shops and bars within just a few blocks. The Kroger is on the other side of Forsyth Park, and is walkable for many.
The Victorian District is experiencing active renovation and appropriate development. So things are happening here! The Victorian homes are fabulous and vary from simple late 1800s homes to grand Italianate and Queen Anne-style "mansions." The walk to and around Forsyth Park is an architectural lesson in itself! .... Josephine's Carriage House is on a lane, which gives another perspective -- you can walk the lane one block east to see charming railroad cottages lined up like fairyland housing. ... The neighborhood is a mix of owner-occupied homes, businesses, SCAD educational buildings and housing, and long- and short-term rentals. It is "mixed use," which was what it was originally planned to be.
