The historic Jefferson House, nestled in a vital and charming Victorian District neighborhood, offers elegant and comfortable accommodations -- 4 bedrooms/4.5 baths -- for up to 8 people. Now with relaxed cancellation/payment policies and enhanced cleaning, the home's central location puts you within a 2 block walk to Forsyth Park, area restaurants, shops and bars. Heading north just a few blocks, the Landmark District begins.
The Jefferson House has been lovingly renovated and retains its historic details and layout. Decorated with simple elegance, this bright and spacious house is furnished with plush, comfortable couches and chairs. Sturdy occasional tables ensure you have a place to set your sweet tea or a glass of champagne, while recessed lights can set the mood for evening. Turn on the many period-appropriate lamps and curl up with one of the books on Savannah or regional history from the library shelves. Or slide up to the breakfast bar in the spacious, bright kitchen with French doors for coffee or lunch and conversation.
Jefferson House retains its triple-parlor first floor, which is perfect for groups large and small. These three areas are open to one another, yet each has its own focal point. Furniture is grouped for intimacy without creating barriers to the rest of the space. Socialize like residents did in the days of yore, with some interacting in the front parlor, and others playing games in the second. Today the "games" might be replaced with a movie on the flatscreen TV, but one thing is certain: each guest can have his or her own space and be able to socialize with those in one of the other parlor areas. The house is perfect for large families, or maybe two families, without stepping on one another's toes. It is popular with wedding groups, "girls'" reunions, family gatherings and marathon runners.
Upstairs the 4 bedrooms all have full baths en suite. One bedroom has its own porch. Each suite is simply decorated for comfort and function. The bedrooms are spacious, with plenty of closet space and a chair for reading or relaxing. (One bedroom features a desk and chair; and there is another desk downstairs for everyone's use.) Fresh linens, quality mattresses and extra bedding and pillows help ensure a good night's sleep. Three bedrooms have queen beds, and one has two twins -- great for kids!
Between the formal dining room and the well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar, there is no shortage of places to eat and enjoy each other's company. Casual or formal: the Jefferson House fits the bill.
In addition to being 2 blocks from Forsyth Park, Jefferson House is a short walk to the Landmark District. Here you'll wander through squares lined with amazingly grand historic homes and shaded with sprawling live oaks, draped with Spanish moss. Continue on to superb shopping on lively Broughton Street and the city's many downtown museums, ending at Savannah's famous River Street and the river, where huge container ships come from all over the world.
