This charming bungalow is a 100-year-old fishermans cottage conveniently located between the historic district and Tybee Island. Thunderbolt, GA is an independent hamlet in Savannah, known for its petite coastal homes, proximity to the intercoastal waterway (a short walk from the house), the fresh shrimp dock, and its easy peace and quiet.
THE SUGAR SHACK
This partially renovated 1100-square foot home offers 2 bedrooms and 1 bath and is the ideal home away from home. It boasts a wrap-around porch with a porch swing and additional seating, white picket fence, woodsy lot, giant 250-year-old live oak tree, and whitewashed shiplap interior - it's the simple South personified. Indeed, it served as a principal location for the movie The Gift (2000) with Cate Blanchett.
It is equipped with keyless locks to keep things simple, screen doors on both entrances so you can catch a cool breeze, as well as high-speed internet, a 32" Smart TV, and lots of books and magazines for you to get cozy with. Parking is ample - enough for around 4 cars, should you have visitors.
We love this home, and trust that you will too!
KITCHEN & DINING
The kitchen has what it takes to keep you comfortable during a longer stay. If you like to cook, we have got you covered with real dishes, pots and pans, silverware, knives, cutting boards, basic spices and even a couple of cookbooks. It has most of the gadgets you might need, including a microwave, tea kettle, coffee maker (and french press!), icemaker and dishwasher.
The washer and dryer are also tucked away in the kitchen. We will provide starter supplies of coffee and paper towels.
The adjacent dining room has a 4-person table that has played host to many a good evening. It is perfect for dinner, drinks, or that 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle you were thinking of bringing.
BEDROOM & BATH
This home includes two bedrooms, each with a queen bed that is well-appointed and comfortable for two. The living room sofa converts into a bed (with its own linens), offering an additional sleeping area.
The full bath was remodeled last year and is AMAZING - light, bright, big and airy. You'll find it stocked with complimentary starter toiletries, fluffy towels, and a starter supply of toilet paper.
OUTDOOR AREAS
If you have had your fill of the porch, check out the backyard - it is shaded by that 250-year-old oak we mentioned, which is the centerpiece of our official National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Some of our favorite natural wonders are the resident barred owls, Johnny and June, who make their appearance (and some owlets) every spring that stay til the fall! There is a beautiful marble firepit out back that was handmade by dear friends, and there is a firewood pile that you are welcome to use (remember to be careful of spiders when getting some wood, and please do not leave any backyard fire unattended.)
THE LOCATION
Nestled in an ideal location, this property is a short 15-minute drive from Savannah’s historic district where you can tour historic downtown, world-class art museums, and dine at a variety of top-rated restaurants.
