Fantastic vacation home outside Playas del Coco
All the descriptions are accurate about this rental, and we could not recommend it more highly. The house is comfortable and extremely flexible. The 3 bedrooms are on the top floor and isolated from the kitchen and ground floor. Pool is immaculate and very refreshing, private and with a beautiful view of the bay. Kitchen is large and very functional. AC works well and needed (July visit) The beach is a 2 min walk down a hill and you will have it mostly to yourselves. Paddleboards and kayaks available. Calm beach with small wave action (in the mornings, it generally rained late every afternoon). The pool club is great, the restaurant serves very good food and drinks with good variety but not cheap. All around this is really a perfect set up for a family if you don't like a resort vibe but want the convenience of pool, beach, restaurant available. We highly recommend the house but a few notes. The beds are hard. Living room furniture not so comfortable. Bring drinking water. You are in Costa Rica - there were suicidal crabs in the pool every day, a few geckos in and around the house, howler monkeys in forest, and a bird symphony every morning at dawn. The pool restaurant is slow, be in a relaxed mood. The slow drive to/from Playas del Coco is on a typical Costa Rica road - lots of potholes and speed bumps. Rent the biggest AWD you can afford to go anywhere in Costa Rica. Shop at the Auto Mercado on the way into town ($$$). Scuba dive with Rocket Frog.

Hidden beach gem in the middle of the mountains
This place is amazing. Getting there can be a little tricky when you drive on your own, but our GPS found it eventually, and it made for a great adventure lol. It was like driving in a movie scene, uncovering this hidden gem in the middle of what felt like nowhere. The property ground is spectacular, the ocean view is real, you can hear the waves while having your coffee or wine on the deck. The walk to the beach is literally 2 min down hill, and it is a private beach, quiet and peaceful. The staff is helpful and Cesar is a sweetheart. The restaurant on site is cute, with good food and drink selections, mostly it has a very chill vibe- so if you want your life rhythm to go down several notches - this place is IT!! The villa is spacious and clean and the kitchen is very well equipped. There are a few items at the villa that are a little old and run down and could use an upgrade: the fuze for the hot tub kept on jumping, and it is also very loud - still a wonderful thing to have...Also the couch in the living room is not very comfortable, and the bed mattresses are hard- so if you prefer a soft one, you may be uncomfortable. Be mindful of the tiles on the deck by the pool they are slippery - we ended up covering them with floor matts, and we were fine the rest of our stay. I am only mentioning those items so you are fully informed - not because it was a problem! We also had lots of adventures with birds, crabs, raccoons and monkeys. We loved every min of it - truly AMAZING!

Costa Rican Getaway
This was our 5th trip to Costa Rica but our 1st stay in this area. We thoroughly enjoyed our month at this villa and the entire Bahia Pez Vela Resort. Our villa was exactly as advertised and the minor issues that did arise were quickly addressed by the owner and the resort office and staff. The check in process with Caesar and Jacki was very easy and welcoming, they were very helpful during our stay. All the details of our booking were accurate and taken care of. Our villa was very clean and had all that we expected and needed for our stay including a great gas bbq. The pool at our villa was excellent and cleaned on a very regular basis by pool staff. Howler monkeys were heard and seen most days. The grounds of the resort are stunning and well taken care of. The beach is a very secluded cove with great swimming and snorkelling. We saw many tour operators pick up their guests right at the beach. The common pools are fantastic and easily accessible. The restaurant poolside at the beach, Soluna, had fantastic food and is a great option. Drinks were a bit pricey but very good. Staff at the restaurant were super friendly like all the staff at the resort. It is a 5 or 7 minute drive to Ocotal Bay (Father Roosters) and another 7 minutes into Coco for more great restaurants, bars and grocery stores. Bahia Pez Vela is at the end of the road which allows it to be extremely quiet, secure and private. We certainly hope to return.

Nice
We had a nice time staying here. The pool is great and the space is really nice. The on site restaurant is really tasty but a bit over the top when you just want a light bite. Definetly go through everything and let the owner know if anything is broken beforehand or they will immediately run it through your insurance. Which is good I guess that they require it. However, when they did make item claims on my behalf that were definitely broken before and I wrote them about it they were very quick to reply and remove the charges.

Exceptional property
To summarize, there is absolutely no reason not to stay at this property. You will love it. Some details - pool is very nice, cleaned often and great temperature. Many towels provided. Kitchen has every device imaginable and good dishes and glassware. BBQ works fine. Beds are firm, but very comfortable. Good AC. Note that if you don't close the glass sliders at night, the raccoons can and will open the screen sliders and steal any food left out. TV app can be changed to English, and includes HBO, Prime, Netflix and others. We watched USA sports on ESPN channels. Only USA major network is ABC. Bathrooms conveniently located and well designed. Resort staff very friendly and helpful, restaurant and bar are wonderful. Reception office has snorkel gear to rent. Our use was limited due to rough surf. It's not really a secluded cove, it's pretty open. Beach is soft and nice, but be sure to be diligent in removing all black sand before returning to house. Roads require some careful driving, due to lots of walkers and bikes. But not really scary and speeds are slow. Note that Google maps shows road past Roosters going clear to Bahia. It does not, it's blocked. Stay to left after Ocotal Gatehouse. Only recommendation is to add handrail next to steps into pool. Otherwise this place is pretty perfect, and a great value. Again, just loved it.

What a Fabulous Experience !
This Villa, #23 named "Grecko Villa", surpassed our expectations in every way. The actual building and pool are even nicer than they appear in the site photos. The renovated kitchen was a pleasure to cook in and with the new island, there was lots of room for 4 adults and 2 teenagers to all participate in the food preparation and cleanup. The 3 bathrooms were really appreciated. The beds and bedding were comfortable; there were lots of towels even with 6 people swimming in the private pool and on the private beach. Also washer & dryer to keep them fresh. The beach had the best snorkelling we found on the Pacific coast beaches. The Maracuya Restaurant in the complex is one of the top restaurants in the area; we had several dinners there & everyone was pleased each time. The guard house does a terrific job of keeping the complex secure & the office staff where always there when they are scheduled to be there & quick to help with supplies or excursion suggestions. Even after 10 nights all together we hated to leave. If you are looking around for a place to stay and this one is available, grab it while you can!!

Villa Gecko stay
This house worked very well for the two of us plus our daughter's family with two younger teen boys. The kitchen was fully equipped but lacked storage for non perishable groceries. The pool and grounds were very well maintained. It was nice having easy access to the beach, resort pool and the great restaurant, Maracuya!

A relaxing getaway
We had a lovely 2 weeks at villa Gecko. Read all the reviews which are all accurate. I would let people know in the listing that there is a safe and a barbecue. Well equipped kitchen, beautiful views, quiet and solitude. Found the restaurant a little expensive, but they had great service and food. Beach was quiet, great for swimming and snorkeling, loved the private pool, which we used everyday.

Nice property but villa a bit dated
The villa is comfortable and has good amenities, part of a nice complex. Great view. Nice private pool. Lots of room. Quiet and private. Restaurant on property is great and convenient. The complex is not too far from town if you have a car, but the road to the resort needs some real repairs, urgently. The villa itself needs some refresh of the interior. Many of the items/furniture inside work, but are visibly worn out/old. Kitchen utensils, pots, pans, etc are all very much used and worn. The private pool is great, however it has a strip of brown tiles around it that become a real hazard when they are wet because they are extremely slippery. Overall, very nice resort, villa & pool, but the villa needs some updates and an interior refresh.

Wonderful!
We stayed with our 4 kids for 2 weeks and can't say enough about what a wonderful time we had! The staff at the restaurant knew us by name and made us feel so welcome. The concierge helped us plan a few outings. When we arrived the toilets wouldn't flush properly and the host had someone come take a look almost immediately. We inquired about a BBQ and one was brought to us to use on the patio! The villa itself is wonderful with the private pool, it was cleaned every other day and our kids basically lived in it. The inside is dated but aesthetically we didn't care. However, some of the items are in need of replacement. For instance some of the drawers in the kitchen didn't open properly and I was worried we were going to end up completely breaking them because they were such a fuss to deal with. The mattress in the master is pretty uncomfortable and worn. The tile in the main room is **incredibly** slippery when it's wet and with 4 kids going in and out of the pool all day you can imagine it was a chore to keep dry. There are also a few of these same tiles by the pool and the kids fell a few times until we moved the patio furniture over them so they couldn't step on them any longer. We stayed in a different villa last year and it has the same tile so I'm guessing they're all that way. Overall it is a truly wonderful villa and resort and we would stay here again!!

The property is located in a beautiful setting which gave our family a sense of relaxation and calm. The pool was great even though the hot tub didn't work but it was warm who we weren't looking to be in hot water. The inside could use some updating but overall was comfortable and and quiet.
