Cabin on Trout River, 9 Acres Surrounded by US Forest, Waterfalls, 100% Secluded

PROPERTY UNHARMED BY HELENE (11/5): At the end of our private gated gravel road after a short drive through United States Forest you will find nine of the most beautiful acres in western North Carolina. The Property was formally operated as "Sweet Water Fly-Fishing Lodge" and has level access to the Thompson River, known for it's Brown Trout fishing and occasional wild Rainbow Trout. Waterfalls are directly reachable from the cabin's front door.

This cabin is for families, hikers, trout fly-fisherman, hunters, and people looking to trade the stress of civilization for nature, beauty, and fresh air.

Our nine acres includes a cabin located on a large mountain meadow surrounded in all four directions by US Forest Land and the thousands of acres of Nanthala National Forest. The Thompson River flows directly beside the cabin. In other locations the Thompson River is mostly unaccessible by vehicle and typically only accessed by fisherman after a lengthy hike. Our property is one of the few spots on the Thompson River accessible by vehicle. Both sides of this level trout river are private property for our renters exclusive use.

Our property includes four "trout holes" and rough trails into Federal Forest Land for fishing, hiking, and exploration. Adjoining the property, a ten-minute walk from the cabin's front door is “White Owl Falls”, a thirty-foot waterfall and swimmable lagoon accessible from our property's private hiking trail. Down river accessible from our property is “Tall Falls”. There are also two swimmable pools, river level and flow permitting, in the Thompson River on our private property. One pool is located just off the large back porch of the cabin and another pool is located a short walk through the forest. There is a large covered pavilion feet from the river, with a rock fire pit, picnic table and Adirondack chairs.

The property is located on Whitewater Rd. In one direction a few miles north is the main entrance of North Carolina's Gorges State Park, named in 2012 by National Geographic Magazine as one of the "50 of the World's Last Great Places - Destinations of a Lifetime", and a few miles south is Whitewater Falls, the largest waterfall in the U.S. east of the Mississippi, and access to "The Foothills Trail", a seventy-six mile long distance hiking trail.

The cabin's outdoor spaces include a large covered front porch facing the meadow, a large deck in the back, and a screened in porch just off the kitchen over looking the Thompson River and the Nantahala National Forest.

Inside our rustic cabin the main floor has two bedrooms: the master bedroom, which has a king (queen in photo) bed and a large walk in closet, and a bedroom with bunk beds. These two bedrooms share access to the cabin's main bathroom. On the main floor there is also the kitchen, dining area, and living room, all open concept. The living room includes a gas fireplace. All bedrooms have baseboard heaters. The cabin's upstairs and main living area is cooled with one large high horsepower mini split a/c unit.

There is a downstairs with an additional three bedrooms, one with a full bed and two with a queen bed and the house's washer and dryer. One of these bedrooms has direct access to the meadow. The second bathroom is downstairs and includes a full bath tub. There is a small third bathroom downstairs. Additionally there is a large living area, with a 65” Roku TV for streaming anything you access at your home, with direct access outside and a second bunk bed sleeping area and kitchenette. The third (not pictured) bedroom has a comfortable queen bed (note this bedroom is simple without a window).

The cabin intentionally does not have cable. As of April 2020 it has high speed-internet and two roku streaming TVs, limited DVD movie selections, and Blue Ray player that is on a movable stand for movie watching. There is a land line telephone.

Additionally, for families with young children there is pack and play crib, booster seat, high chair, children's books, toys, and movies stored on site.

This is a cabin for a family, group of friends, couple, hikers, or fishermen who value the beauty of nature, the forest, water falls, and being on a river. It is a simple cabin in the Nantahala National Forest where you are free to relax and will be at peace in the seclusion of the forest. If you are looking for a uniquely beautiful property to get back to nature you have found it.

Located between Cashiers, North Carolina and Brevard, North Carolina in Sapphire, Transylvania County, North Carolina.

Fabulous Place to Unwind
This is the second time that we visited this particular spot and I’m sure we will be back again. They’re just is no comparison. The creek in the backyard and the short hike to the waterfall are the highlights. The cabin is spotless and fully equipped for whatever you might need. Just bring the disposable items like toilet paper and paper towels and you’re pretty much set to go. Enjoy!

Third Visit - Still Going Strong!
My family and I have stayed at Sweetwater 3 times now. Each year, Drew has made great improvements to the property/home. It is obvious that this is a beloved family retreat, and we will continue visiting as long as we can! Thanks for another wonderful visit!

Mountain paradise
This was our second time staying at this property and we noticed many improvements that make the property even better than we remembered. If you're looking to disconnect from the fast pace daily grind with family or friends this place offers what you need. This property will become a staple for us to return and sets the bar high for all mountain vacation destinations.

Can't wait to return
We are in love with this property. One couldn't ask for a more secluded, peaceful and beautiful place to stay . My husband and his best friend from graduate school love to fish, and this property allows them to fish in front of the house while the rest of us enjoy the campfire overlooking the river. I love how close and beautiful White Owl Falls is. The waterfall below the property is even bigger and also has a great swimming hole . Just watch out for some poison ivy patches en route to this one . I wore pants and was just fine. And sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs while listening to the rain on the tin roof is super relaxing. I think this is our third stay here and we're already discussing when to book for next year . Can't wait to enjoy your place again soon, Andrew !

Fantastic!
We absolutely loved this place. It was perfect for our 2 families (4 adults, 4 teenagers and 2 dogs) and was so well-appointed. Beautiful property. A great place to disconnect! Secluded, no nearby neighbors. Enjoyed being around the fire pit at sunset, mesmerized by the river. We definitely hope to stay again!

Sapphire NC Cabin Get Away
Beautiful secluded and private cabin that is in a gem of wilderness for those who need their soul refreshed with sound of waterfalls and clear water river and creek that converge on property. Very private and an incredible wilderness experience that is truly unique. The cabin is first class for the experience of camping but feel more like a private resort for one family. Hiking and fishing and just the seclusion makes it a wonderful place.

Stunning property with SO much to do!!
We had such an amazing visit! The property is absolutely breathtaking, the house is immaculate and there is something for everyone here: hiking, fishing, wading, games (indoor and outdoor), fire pit, front porch sitting, screened porch sitting, gazebo sitting...the list is endless. Pretty sure even our dog enjoyed his stay! The house is stocked, clean, quiet and so comfortable - we all slept great and were well rested for the next day's adventures. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Family Favorite
This is our second time staying here and once again, it was great! We were here in June and then again on early November. The boys caught brook and brown trout on the property and then took a guided fishing trip where they caught rainbow trout. The girls enjoyed spending time in Highlands and the family enjoyed hiking. The place is in a great location for fishing and hiking and it's become our family favorite. The owners are great and we will be back!!

September visit
We stayed at the cabin the week of September 12, 2020. The cabin and amenities were accurately described and very clean on arrival. We had beautiful fall weather and did a lot of hiking. We brought food and did our own cooking. The grocery store is about 30 minutes away. It was lovely and we would stay again!

Heaven on Earth
If you’re thinking about booking this property, just do it! Wow, what a little slice of Heaven Sweetwater is! We spent most of our time outside in the meadow or by the creek with our two dogs. The privacy, peace, and calmness this property provided was phenomenal! The bed was very comfortable, linens were crisp clean, and overall a very accommodating home. We will be back!

Family Thanksgiving
Loved, Loved, Loved this quiet and peaceful cabin. We spent several days with our kids and grandkids during Thanksgiving. From Evenings around the fire pit making S’mores to hiking the trail to the waterfalls, we created memories that will last forever. We would have returned at Christmas if the cabin had been available but we will definitely return. Thank you for sharing your beautiful place with us!

An Outstanding Place
We just finished a 4 night stay at Sweetwater Cabin and I had to write this review immediately! What a special place in this world! It is just what we needed during this year of bad news... reminds you that nature is really spectacular and beauty exists. The house is much larger than it appears in the pictures, and the property itself is filled with fruit trees, multiple fire pits, waterfalls, and hikes. Great for a family gathering or fishing trip!

A little "PEACE" of HEAVEN on Earth!
This trout cabin and property was absolutely gorgeous! Didn't cath any trout this time but maybe next time...wading and fishing in the river was so rewarding...small falls and beauty everywhere....sitting on the deck with a fire going listening to the falls was pure joy...inside was comfortable and had more than enough of everything needed. Thank you so much! We will be back!

Paradise!
This was our second visit to Sweetwater, and it didn’t disappoint. This property is wonderful for those who love the outdoors and relish in the tranquility of nature. Bring your fishing gear, and leave your devices at home! The home is about 20 minutes from Cashiers, which has a big Ingles grocery store and many cute boutique stores and restaurants. Lots of hiking on property and off property. We are looking forward to booking our next trip in 2023.

Peaceful quality time together; exactly what our family needed!
This trip has been one to remember for all of us! We cannot say enough good things about this home, the property, and the location! We brought our 4 kids and dog to stay for 4 days, and the only complaint any of us have is that we're not staying longer! We hiked 2 days at Gorges State Park which was less than an 8 minute drive away. We hiked from the house to White Owl Falls. We ran into Cashiers for lunch and groceries the first day, but after that, we loved every second of seclusion! The house had everything we needed and more! Our family felt at home and welcome! I think most of us are ready to book our next stay here!

Great escape
The pictures on here dont do this house and property justice. Was better than expected. Perfect location, not to far from civilization but far enough. We hiked to two waterfalls, one being a very simple hike (white owl) and the other ( tall falls) a little more challenging but still simple enough for small children. We especially enjoyed our time at night sitting by the fire and watching what seemed like millions lighting bugs light up our surroundings. I look forward to going back.
