Casa de Suenos is a platform for an extraordinary experience to steep in the moment and dream. This Santa Fe gem boasts bohemian rustic furnishing, gourmet kitchen, satellite, turntable, and Sonos sound system. Our 5.5-acres are covered with hundreds of pinon, juniper, and cedar trees that extend to the top of the mountain behind the home. You can literally hike in your own backyard or relax on the many Portillo covered patios and contemplate clouds by day and gaze at the milky way by night.
An epic experience awaits you at Casa de Suenos
PLACE
Casa de Suenos, located in the Canoncito area of Santa Fe is only 20 minutes from the Santa Fe Plaza and less than 10 minutes from some of Santa Fe's most delicious farm-to-table establishments (Cafe Fina, Harry's Roadhouse, Arable). You are close to everything but far enough to completely immerse yourself in the grace and grandeur of the New Mexican high desert. The unique microclimate of Canoncito is a few degrees cooler than downtown and is amongst the first area in Santa Fe to be blanketed with snow.
HOME.
The spacious one-story home is a perfect blend of Santa Fe architecture with its smooth adobe walls, exposed vigas, stone, and brick floors yet with the modern accents found in the recently remodeled bathrooms, kitchen, and concrete floors of the "white" wing of the house.
*Enjoy the gorgeous gourmet kitchen to cook or enjoy delicious takeout from the nearby eateries. The fully-stocked kitchen features a Bosch dishwasher, stove and oven, built-in microwave, mixing bowls, baking pans, and All-Clad pots and pans. Begin your morning right with the electric teapot, coffee grinder, and coffee machine that sits on the expansive countertops.
*Gather around the 18th-century French dining table (originally used to knead bread).
*Sink into the Poly & Bark leather chairs situated in front of the large window that looks out to a grove of pinon, cedar, and juniper trees,
* Master Bedroom in the "white" wing - This room is bathed in natural light. With white walls, light concrete floors, plenty of windows, and a skylight, you can't help but feel happy. Each of the windows frames a gorgeous view, either of the lavender garden steps outside the patio door, green hillsides, or the glow of the sunrise seen from the West Elm king-size bed. The walls feature art from Georgia O'Keeffe, Los Angeles-based artists, and Santa Fe artist, Andrea Vargas. This bedroom adjoins the white living room and has two large closets located in the private hallway that leads to the room.
The bathroom features European-designed fixtures with a raised rectangular double sink, modern faucets, and a sumptuous shower with black and white tiled floors and white tiled walls. Choose white or blue LED lights to illuminate the bathroom. Toiletries are provided.
* Master bedroom #2- The Bedroom with a Soaking Tub - This second master bedroom incorporates the more traditional Santa Fe architectural elements of the home, with brick floors, vigas, and natural clay plaster on the adobe walls. The king-size wood bed frame was a find from an estate in Montecito, California brought to Casa de Suenos. The driftwood that holds the macrame was found on the shore of the Pacific Ocean in Montecito. The dresser originally from Thailand ties in with the Asian influence of the modern bathroom that prominently features a large black soaking tub. The spirit of this room is influenced by the East and West, the desert, and the ocean. Enjoy the night sky while lying on the bed. This room has a sizeable walk-in closet where bathrobes await.
* Master Bedroom #3 - This room feels like a nest. With warm soothing colors of pinks, purples, and reds on the rug, walls, and blanket, this room beckons calm. The walls feature art from Georgia O'Keeffe, LA-based artist, Chuy Rangel, and Amado Pena. The platform queen bed is bookended with side tables from Bali. Brick floors and vigas on the ceiling extend into the traditional bathroom of colorful hand-painted tiles.
* Living room - Hang out and feed your mind with the many art objects I found in the fabulous stores throughout Santa Fe (the Calacas/skeletons are from Mexico City). Or relax and get lost in a movie on the ultra-comfortable Poly & Bark leather couch with the fireplace on during the winter months. The antique chair upholstered with Mudcloth in the corner of the light and bright room is a perfect place to sink into one of the many books found in the house including my book, EAT LESS WATER.
Heat/and Cooling
The house has radiant heated floors throughout. There is a gas fireplace in the living room, with a remote controlled temperature.
Casa de Suenos, has central air in portions of the house beginning in July. There are fans for each room. Including a ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms.
Casa de Suenos is an adobe house, it’s thick walls designed to keep the house cool. The house is south facing with portillos wrapping around the front of the house offering nice shade. There is a grove of juniper, cedar, and piñon steps, from the front door that also keep it naturally cool.
Because Santa Fe cools every night, we encourage guests to open windows (all screened) at night.
TECHNOLOGY.
The home is connected to Wi-fi, and two Smart TVs, with Prime, Netflix, YouTube Premium, and HBO MAX at your fingertips. A turntable with a diverse record collection and a Sonos Sound system is ready to set the mood.
The Wi-fi speed is 100 GPS allowing for more than ample speed to handle email, zoom conference calls, web surfing, and streaming. We recently upgraded the internet system to NM Surf, a local company.
Not all phone services receive good service but you can switch over to Wi-fi calling for no interruption.
The house has an ADT alarm system. Its primary purpose is to protect the home (it monitors fire/carbon monoxide levels too) when the property is vacant. You can choose to arm the system during your stay or keep it disarmed (what I do). No video cameras.
SKY.
The desert clouds, stars, and moon here are so close you could touch them. Enjoy outdoor drinks or smores around the Solo fire pit under the milky way and constellations. Or sit on the Adirondack chairs and cloud gaze. The house has several areas to linger and watch the everchanging day and night sky. The light around the property is intentionally designed to offer optimal stargazing conditions.
VIBRATIONS.
Casa de Suenos is made for music! Spin the house vinyl or your own favorite records on the turntable. Connect your smartphone to the Sonos sound system and stream your favorite music. Play the house guitar, sing, dance, and be IN Joy.
GAMES AND BOOKS.
Dig into one of the great titles you will find at the house, children's picture books too (for our young guests). Or play one of the many games like UNO, chess, or Twister. We also have horseshoes available to play on the grounds.
WILD.
Hang with Casa de Suenos' bunnies, hummingbirds, scrub jays, and other native birds. Explore the hundreds of pinon trees, juniper, cedar trees, couple of fruit trees (help yourself to any fruit) and other native plants on the property. Then at night listen for the coyotes' moonlight howl and if you are lucky, the rare sound of the bobcat.
ALIGNMENT.
Get centered and relax deeply. Casa de Suenos is curated to foster good vibes and creativity. Immerse yourself in the good feeling that comes with the connection to nature, beauty, and the people you love. This house and surrounding land are meant to be experienced.
THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED
The last 0.5 miles of the house is a dirt road. The road is well-maintained by the County of Santa Fe. The private driveway leading to the house is gravel. Any car can drive this road most of the year BUT I would leave your low-to-the-ground sports car at home (my PRIUS V works great). During the winter months when snow is on the ground an AWD or 4WD to manage the final stretch to the house is helpful. But it is possible to drive without (my Prius doesn’t have AWD). And there tends not to be an accumulation of snow. It generally melts the same day or by the next. Another reason to love Casa de Suenos.
