An intensive search of Santa Fe listings a couple of months before our trip turned up only this property to suit our particular needs: two adult couples and an independent fifth person with easy accessibility to downtown and the plaza. What could be better than three bedrooms with good isolation, three patios (one with a gas grill, two excellent bathrooms, a kitchen with first-rate appliances, and very good laundry facilities? Santa Fe's Governor's Palace and the Indian Market are just over a half mile right down PALACE Avenue.
With a large 7-passenger SUV, the entrance and driveway were intimidating, but East Palace Avenue is a surprisingly quiet street, and turning the big vehicle around was merely an exercise in use of a backup camera.
Small kitchen appliances, dishes, and cutlery combinations are unique to any rental. Coffee was covered in spades here, with TWO French presses, an espresso unit, and a conventional 12-cup maker. Electric kettle for the tea drinkers. The stove, exhaust system, and refrigerator are high-end Jenn Air. Microwave and toaster (oven) were inscrutable (classic?), but our youngest member kind of figured them out. Any ordinary toaster would be a good addition. Knife, cooking pan, and silverware selection is good. Tableware is dominated by a curious heavy black dish set, apparently somewhat chip-prone. Worked, though. We could have used one or two more conventional cereal bowls.
All five of us will look back with affection at our stay at Palace Gem.
