Gorgeous views/difficult check in
First, this property is in a beautiful location with incredible views of the Val D'Orcia! What they don't tell you in the description is that the road to get to the house is a very steep dirt road with ruts. It's passable and that's why the great views, but just be aware. Also, the check in process was very poorly explained. They tell you to go to an address (they gave us the incorrect street #) that is within the walled city of San Quirico. You must park outside the walls and walk in to the city to get the key. It would have been helpful to tell us which gate is the closest to the address. Secondly, they SAY they speak English. Not true. The message sent to my phone was from a translation app but of course I was not aware of that so I responded in English but the property manager, Lydia, spoke not a word of English. I speak some Italian, but she was very difficult to understand. The check in process was horribly communicated and could have been so much easier if only they could have better explained it and gave us the correct info. This is a family home and farm and they have a cantina and olive oil business where a couple of the owners speak English and are delightful, but they don't make it easy initially. The house is generally very well maintained, particularly the bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen however needs some attention. It has a beautiful farm table, lots of glasses and dishes but the utensils were minimal and some, not useable. All in all an OK stay.
