Located just 10 km from Verona, in the enchanting green hills of the Valpolicella appellation, Villa Sogara is a stunning historic villa (the Emperor of Austria stayed here in 1857) filled with treasures, and built during the 15th century upon Roman ruins. The owners have completely restored the Villa, which contains 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a fully appointed kitchen, dining room, library, music room (with piano), various living rooms and outdoor relaxation areas.
A new swimming pool with a terraced sunbathing patio is surrounded by 10 hectares (25 acres) of picturesque vineyards and orchards. Daily cleaning service, Wi-Fi internet access, air conditioning, two dishwashers, two washing machines, two refrigerators and a dryer are included. This stellar location is ideal for exploring the Veneto and the surrounding area, for attending the many international fairs held in Verona or just for avoiding the chaos of modern life.
Your hosts, Tommaso and Ela Peruzzi, are an accomplished sommelier and chef team. Guests are encouraged to arrange cooking classes, wine experiences and gourmet meals with them in advance. All classes, tastings and dinners are prepared and conducted at the villa so no driving is needed. (Be sure to order the classic Risotto Sogara for a dinner course. Prepared with the Villa-grown Lilium wine, accented with Pecorino with truffles, this is a dish not to be missed.)
The Veneto is a region full of history and tradition, renowned also for local food and wine production. Many interesting sites to be visited are Venice, Vicenza, Padova, and Lake Garda. Nearby, you will find countryside, mountains and seaside, lakes and sea beaches.
Verona is one of the main tourist destinations in north-eastern Italy, thanks to its artistic heritage, several annual fairs (Vinitaly, Fieracavalli, Marmomacc and many others), shows and operas, such as the Opera Festival in the Arena, the ancient amphitheatre built by the Romans.
Because of the value and importance of its many historical buildings, mostly of the Roman and Medieval ages, Verona has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moreover, Verona is the setting of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
Verona's Natural History Museum contains one of the most valuable collections of fossils and archaeological remains of Europe. Castelvecchio Museum features a collection of sculptures, statues and paintings in a magnificent castle built in 1354-1356.
