At the base of the pedestal there are bronze plaques that enhance the deeds of Columbus.

"This is located on the picturesque street that used to have umbrellas but not has lights. It is very close to the governor's mansion, and the street is blocked off and guarded. But the police are very friendly and let you in and out easily."
