I gave the property a 2 for communication due to her actually responding to my messages; however, she never responded to VRBO who tried calling and emailing her to explain my family and my flight cancellation from the airline. Our flight was cancelled three different times and there was not another available for 3 days out. Therefore, we had to cancel our entire trip. I then explained this to the property owner a few days after due to her not responding to VRBO (third party to Expedia) and she blamed me for not reaching out to her sooner.
I did not bother to reach out sooner because after the first cancellation she refused to credit me one night out of the 8, which wasn’t a big deal at the time considering I thought we would arrive the next day. In addition, I felt it was the responsibility of VRBO. I didn't purchase the travel insurance as I was under the impression that, that only pertained to situations under your own control. I also had faith that there are good people in the world and they would understand unfortunate situations.
I gave low ratings due to her keeping the entire payment without offering any alternative, but I never saw it (to be fair). She also insinuated that not only did I want her to consider my lost from hard earned saved money for our family vacation (the kids Christmas gift), but that I also wanted her to put her family at a significant lost. The insinuation was not only rude and un empathetic, but it was also not what I was trying to convey.
